I've got a sociology paper due and in it, the professor has asked us to talk about doxa, heterodoxy (multiple doxa) and orthodoxy (ignoring doxa that are not your own).

I've used the word heterodoxical in the context of "In a heterodoxical world...".

Is this correct? Or is this not a word?

From Dictionary.com:

dox·y Audio pronunciation of "doxy" ( P ) Pronunciation Key (dks)
n. Slang pl. dox·ies

1. A female lover; a mistress.
2. A sexually promiscuous woman.

Heterodoxy sounds like a good thing :)

If it's not a word, it sure gets around like one. Throw it into google and see for yourself (even google groups).

Singing a heterodoxology would probably get you tossed out of church whereas a heterolox just wouldn't be kosher.

why not use heterodox?

uhm maybe there's a difference. Like electric vs electrical. Electrical pertains to electricity, electric uses it to work or something.
