You think that's spoiled? I used to work with a guy that drove a brand new luxury car (forgot the model/make) in High School and totaled it in a one car accident while screwing around. His parents then went out and bought him a brand new Lexus GS300 to replace it.

He was (and probably still is) a complete jack-ass. I make quite a bit of money now and if I ever have kids they're going to be buying their own expensive toys so they learn some respect for the value of money. (and just respect in general, I'm not raising a spoiled brat)

I'm not the 75 y/o bastard I sound like. :)

When I have kids, if Im fortunate enough to make decent money like I plan to, I wont mind buying them a car. Granted it will be a STARTER car, like something decent, nothing spectacular. But to have the car, theyre gonna have to get a part time job, pay insurance, and get B or better grades. Sounds fair to me.

<< GooberPHX420 - weren't you whining awhile ago about your daddy and how he made burritos you didn't like? >>

LOL And about Mexicans, and about public restrooms, and about suicide...well you get the idea.

Goober a 10K motorcycle and you think he's spoiled? No way as long as he has the grades and stays out of trouble his parents are just making life a little easier for him. Though I bought my kids a dirt dike, no street bikes ever.

Hah, that's not spoiled. My friend is spoiled. His parents gave him a Corolla for his birthday which he totalled two days later racing on the ice with his headlights turned off. Two weeks later they buy him a Montero Sport as a surprise gift, but he told them he hates SUVs. So they keep the Montero for themselves and buy him a Maxima.

That is spoiled.

After all of that, I think he wrecked the Corolla on purpose. Either that or his parents may think he will better be able to kill himself with a faster car (which is the theory I bring up to him whenever he suggests driving me someplace.)

You're jealous--he has to live at home!! That is horrible, I wouldn't take anything less than a vehicle to do it.

<< You'll loose that jeaolsy fast when:

a) he rides like a jackass and they have to scrub him off the street
b) some idiot yacking on a cell phone doesn't see him and takes him out
c) a mixture of the two

d) gets a $400 ticket for driving in excess of 120mph because he's late for class.
>>

he wouldn't get a ticket if he knew how to drive it because a cop couldn't catch him

I don't think teenagers should have to work during HS. My parents gave me their hand me down, a 1993 Dodge Intrepid, and paid the insurance on it. I worked one semester in HS, sophomore year, and I found it very difficult to keep my grades at a high level (yes, they were all above Bs, but you need to make A's to get into a good college now adays). I attend a top private school in Dallas (well thankfully I will be graduating soon - only 7 more days left!) and this year, taking 4 AP classes, I would have found it impossible to have a job an keep my grades up. Insurance is very high on a teenager (espically a male), so luckily for me (and well, all of my friends) our parents are willing to pay for it.

Now if I had attended public school, taking regular (non-honors/AP classes), I wouldn't have found it very difficult to both work and go to school, and make high grades. I guess the question is where do you draw the line between one's studies and having a job?

I wouldn't give my kids everything they would want, in no way; in fact, if they wanted any extra spending money (I would, probably like my parents have done) encourage them to get a job during the summer months. But balancing school (espically a challenging curriculum) and work is a lot to expect from most people.

Erub, I wish I didnt have to work. I had a 5.0 GPA (my school offers weighted AP classes.) all the way through the middle of my junior year. Then I got a job to cover my insurance and cell phone. (my insurance is only $118 a month and my dad refuses to pay it, he makes between $250-300k a year.) My GPA is now a 3.1, up from a 2.7 of last year. As we speak, Im doing a no call no show to work. Fvck this crap. My mom and dad freakin abuse the hell out of me with my truck. I take my ghey bro anywhere he needs/wants to go. I go grocery shopping for them. I run any friggen errand they request. Since my folks are divorced, I drive both ways on the weekends to my dads house. Anyways, I know its lame. They put me in a fugged up situation. I cant work weekends only cuz thats my time with my dad. And my mom bitches when I work nights and my grades go down. So then Im like "Fine Ill sell my truck" and they are like "No, you cant you have to do all the errands" blah blah. Fuggen ghey. Hope you guys arent retarded parents like that..

DAm man. Sorry to hear about that. I think your dads a bit tyte. When I am older I will pay 'half' of what my children want then they are older. They'll have to save the other half for whatever they want. That to me seems fair. I am not going to buy loads and loads of stuff for them for nothing. Will at times but nothing major like a new sports car or bike! But I will pay for half. This to me is fair as it teaches them the value of money. But I will pay for 'necessary' things though. All things for education and I'll pay for insurance on the car etc etc etc....

I say your friend is spoiled. hes got a 2002 eclipse and a new bike! But it is off set with cheaper bills for his parents though......
