People are idiots, and can't think objectively. That person would blow a hippo if they thought it would put them on the right side of social justice. Of course there's nothing "racist"(holy shit, can we bury that word?!) about disliking a particular sound.

This.

Hate a religion? You're a racist!
Hate fat people? Racist!
Hate thin people? Racist!
Hate people who use apple? Racist!

Thats how some people react anyway

No, because no matter how educated they are I just can't listen to anyone with a heavy Boston accent.

Boston is a race? With that said, I don't care for Indian accents, I have talked to people on the phone where it was so bad, I couldn't understand them at all. I asked to be transferred to someone else.

hating accents/dialects because they are hard to understand or unclear or just sound bad is not racist at all. That is hating an accent or a dialect.

I hate mumblers, the people that talk very quietly and blur their words together and never annunciate anything. I am not the fucking sherlock holmes of hearing, so I hate that shit.

If the person happens to be chinese or indian, that does not mean I am racist. Since I got no problem with Chinese or Indian Americans who have no accent.

I was in a discussion with someone about how I hated a certain accent. The reason I brought it up is because I was talking with someone on the phone who had a very strong version of this accent. He said that it is racist to hate that accent. I asked how it's racist if I am talking just about the accent. He couldn't say why but still just said it was racist.

Here's the thing I don't get: How is disliking an accent racist? I don't see how it has anything to do with race unless you think certain races have certain accents. In which case, I say you're the racist and pigeonholing/stereotyping people.

When I purposed that generally people don't find impersonating or hating on a British accent as racist, he didn't have much to say on that except, "Well, some might." (Paraphrasing but not by much) If a British man (with a british accent) said he hated American accents... that's racist? Wtf. Examples like these make me think that if you just generally hate the accent then it's not racist.

Thoughts, ATOT?

When I play rap music while streaming video games on Twitch.tv I have no viewers. When I play white people music while streaming video games on Twitch.tv I have plenty of viewers.

Are Twitch.tv viewers racist :hmm:

Its ok to have preferences & dislikes. You do need to be adult enough not to fire someone or something similar because you don't like the accent.

A lot of accents are annoying at first until you acclimate and start filtering out the accent automatically, and just hear the person speaking and what he or she is saying. I'm sure plenty of people find your accent annoying or my accent annoying... everyone has an accent. It's not racist to purely dislike an accent, but it's more your limitation if it becomes a hangup for you, and not the other person's.

If an accent is thick enough that you have trouble understanding the person sometimes it can can be frustrating, though. Especially in an academic setting.

Accents are not too bad if the person is articulating properly, the worse is someone with a thick accent who also does not articulate and sounds like they have a cock in their mouth.

After a while you can get used to a certain accent if the person articulates it well.

I remember having to deal with this person who not only had a really thick accent, but stuttered, and sounded like he had a couple cocks in his mouth. It was so bad I told him to just email me what he was trying to say lol.

Most people have an accent to people who are from another location too. Ontario French does not sound the same as Quebec French for example. I'm French but most Quebecers think I'm English or some even think I'm from New Brunswick lol. When I first started my current job I had a bit of trouble with the Quebec French mostly because they tend to talk faster and the way they slide some words, but now I'm used to it. Quebec slang is the best though. "C'est tous fucker!" meaning "It's all screwed up" lol.

I could go all over on this one, some accents seem to have a certain attitiude to begin with.

I think I've pretty much wiped out my Midwestern one over the years since I moved down here in 1990, I try to go with generic English as much as I can if that is possible.

I probably speak like Letterman, as we grew up in the same area, and I think he kind of went that route.

Some Midwestern accents are horrible.

According to some people, if you're white you are automatically racist, and only white people can be racist.

So, are you white? You racist :colbert:

Racism is imposed by people in power on people who don't have power. Anybody can be prejudiced but to be racist you have to have power.

I've met at least two worthless scum-of-the-Earth types who were shockingly racist for no other reason than that it made them feel as if they were better than black people. They would be too ashamed of themselves otherwise (living in squalor and dumber than dumb). It wasn't simple racial prejudice.
