Is Halo really THAT good?

I was reading this review over at Avault and I haven't seen a reviewer gush this much over a game since Half Life!!!

Guess I'll have to try it out when I go to Best Buy tomorrow to pick up a GF3 Ti 200 and 110 pack of CDR's

It's a decent game, the integration of vehicles into a FPS is better than ever in Halo. Not really that spectacular otherwise to this FPS veteran.

What really brings it down in my eyes is the damned gamepad. Don't get me wrong, I love the two triggers on it and it's probably decent for most console games, but for a made-for-PC style game like Halo you'll be wishing every second for the good ol' keyboard and mouse combo. Bring Halo the the PC and we'll probably have a FPS that's among the top 10 of all time (but certainly not the best, that goes to Duke3D!)

I think it's the best fps since Half Life, and I'm not "used to Mario and Monkey Balls"... The only gaming I've been doing for the last 2 years has been on my PC. The story is good, and you have the feeling there's a point to the game, unlike senseless shooters like Q3 and UT. (I hate those kind of games) For the graphics, think Tribes 2 environments with much better textures.

I'll probably get tired of it once I finish it and play it a few more weeks (I'm about half way through it now), but if the Internet multiplayer is good, then it should survive well. (you can already play co-op or via LAN)

And it plays very well with the gamepad. Of course I'd probably be quicker with a mouse/kb, but they knew people were going to be playing it with a gamepad, so they designed it that way.

I was never impressed by Halo... and most people flame me for it. The guy at my local GameStop couldn't believe that I didn't think it was that great

Then I learned that he didn't have a good enough PC to play any recent games and I knew why

Well, considering it came out like 5 years ago, the graphics aren't that bad. There are other things than graphics in a game, like a story, and HL had an excellent one.

Hmm, I liked Duke3D a lot as well Duke owns.

 

I played it for like an hour. I didn't like it at all. It's too slow (you can't run) and the graphics are not all that. I like some of the concepts, like you can only have two guns at a time, but the developers tried to make it too real to life and sacraficed gameplay for realism.

The controls are horrible, it was still awkward after an hour.

Even if it comes to the PC, I will pass. With Unreal 2, Doom 3, Duke 4, NOLF 2 coming, my FPS plate is full.

I might get Halo when it comes to the PC.

It should be even better, and it will have online play too.

Most FPS's and consoles don't mix in my book....and Halo is one of those.

I thought Return to Castle Wolfenstein was EXCELLENT until you get to see those walking skeletons. What kind of bull is that, a game that is pretty realistic, in a german setting, and all of a sudden you see skeletons walking around?

I uninstalled it right away, my friend said he'll buy it from me...

Those Skeletons sucks. I think that the single player part of RTCW is a big joke.

Damn dude, that's harsh. If you acually spent time to read the backstory or even watch the opening scenes, you'd realize that the Krauts are experimenting with the paranormal ala X-Files.

Oh man that's lame! I was also worried about screenshots that showed that stuff. Frigging lame is what that is. Lame with a capital L! Why'd they do that!!!?!

I played it for a couple of hours and thought that it was very fun. The learning curve on the controller wasn't too bad either. After playing this and DOA3, I am convinced and will be purchasing an XBOX in the not too distant future.
