Is GTA: Vice City really that good?

Now that all the hype has died down a bit and people have actually gotten to play the game, is it really all people said it was? I'm really wanting to play it just because of it's open gameplay and all the reviews I've read, but that's pretty much the only reason I'd get a PS2.

I currently have a Gamecube and am looking at trading it for a PS2 w/Vice City. Otherwise, pretty much every other game I want is on Xbox.

Granted, I won't keep the PS2 long...I just want to have enough time to experience Vice City to the fullest (renting it or borrowing it won't work).

Is Vice City really worth it? I did play GTA3 for a while and it was fun, but I couldn't play it for more than an hour straight without getting bored. Was fun to come back and pickup where I left off though.

vice city<=== teh suck

seriously that game sucks... it gets so old. Really, all you do is drive around and steal cars, and run over people... a cool concept but thats all that happens!!

then you probably won't like GTAIII either...and there ARE missions to complete and the game to beat, but people concentrate on the other stuff ...because thats whats so cool 😀

I had a fun time driving around and chasing after people. The side missions were more fun then the main missions, imo. I don't think I did more than 10 "main" missions in GTA3.

I've heard a lot of the reviews say that Vice City was suppose to have more fun missions and the city was just huge. Riding around on a motorcycle, helicopter, boat, etc just sounds awesome.

That game kicks ass, as does GTA III. Consider Vice City as a somewhat big add-on to GTA III. Both games are just kick ass. Vice City has motorcycles and helicopters, which makes the game even better!!!!! If you get bored with missions, go out and explore! Police chases are way more fun in Vice City (spike traps and Feds in trucks)

It can get boring if you just drive around doing nothing. Using a few codes and getting some nice weapons makes things interesting too. Do the missions and everything and it really is challenging.

In addition, there are missions to complete but otherwise I agree with you. Besides the mature content i have no clue what makes that game so desirable.

Yzzim, that was one the problems I too had w/ GTA 3, I spent so much time doing side missions and playing around w/ the GTA "world" that I never got ver far in the game. As much as I had fun playing the game, it's not the type of game I ever saw myself finishing 😱

Good, someone else that knows what I'm talking about 🙂

Have you tried Vice City at all?

Missions or no missons, I got tired of the game fast. Steal this, shoot this, kill him, save her. It got boring. At least for me it did.

anyone else have an opinion on the game?

So far I'm getting the idea that Vice City isn't reason enough to get a PS2

I loved GTAIII and played all the way through it and then some. Vice City is great too, but I've gotten bored with it. It's a good game though, maybe my tastes have just changed.

i like the game. the missions are fun. good story line. the side missions are fun (ie: vigilante missions, fire truck missions, taxi cab missions) the soundtrack is great. lets put it this way, if all my friends didnt have a ps2 and vice city, i would but a ps2 just for that game. its a great game and the game is ENORMOUS! so place my vote for buying the system and the game. but thats just my opinion.

that happened with me on GTA3 i mean it was fun in the beginning but then it just seemed to get kinda boring... maybe doing the missions and really getting into ti changes that but i just couldnt get into it that much.

Yeah, I agree. Not my kind of game at all.

awesome game. argueably the greatest ever. the missions in vice city are more creative and challenging than in gta 3.
a pity there are so many glitches.

my fave mission was boomstick saigon. paraphrasing here: 'not the hospital, man, its full of c.i.a.' 🙂

personally, i think i liked the first one better. the one thing that i always had a blast with, is when i had about 4 or 5 people over at my house, and we use to go into cinematic view, and did the cop code, turn on the handling trick, and see how long we would last against the cops, it was always fun.

but with vice city, the handling trick sucks, since it is way too easy to turn your car over. I never really got into the actual game of vice city, i think it is mostly because i am starting to turn away from video games, being around them for about 8 or 9 years, i think i am just growing out of it. but im sure it is a good game, i just cant really get into it anymore

the only time i really play games anymore is wehn people are out my house, or when i play ddr.. but since my metal pads are broken until i fix them, then i wont be playing it.

Also, if anyone got bored of GTA3, go back to it. I got tired of it for a while, but when I went back to it on a long weekend, I got all addicted and finished the game.

Now I just do vigilante missions. My record sequential Criminals Killed is only 6 so far. But I did 100 successful taxi runs IN A ROW. With the special Borgnine Taxi that you get when you complete you 100th taxi run. So I guess I've done 200 taxi missions but there doesn't seem to be anymore rewards.

GTA3 was brilliant... GTA:VC is a rehash... and one that trys WAY too hard. Helicopters and motorcycles do not make up for the fact that the gane has horrible loading times and ugly graphics. Where as GTA3 kept it simple, Vice trys to complicate and make everything better, but for me, it ended up making the a real crap fest.

Another good thing to check out is if your local gamestore has any used copies. For the longest time, it was impossible to find GTA3 used. But only 4 months after Vice released, my store has 10+ used copies of it.

Meh...

GTA:VC is like an expansion packto GTA3. Its fun factor wears off in a week or two. I owned GTA3 and liked that game though i did get bored of it after a month or so. GTA:VC was just more of the same and i stopped playing it after a week. The game is a good renter, but not a buyer IMO.
