The onlything i dont like about google is how it shows you hundreds of online stores when you search for a product review.

Other then that, Its all good.

I started using Google during its prime. . . . However, now I'm starting to notice that I'm no longer getting significant results. It's frustrating sometimes. I'm afraid Google is about to join the search engines that came before it. I don't know if they changed their search system, and I haven't stayed update? I am starting to look at other search engines . . . I should use other search engines more often, since Google is failing me. :(

and how much better can a search engine get? i mean its a pretty basic idea and yet theres so many features they offer... imo search engines are something that we all need but we've come to the point where they've all developed so much and the only advances left for them are like ridiculous extras that most ppl dont really need... that and turning the website into a "porta'" or whatever... its only a matter of time before you buy a dell computer and run IE and its home page is www.google.com and its like a huge news portal and you can check your google mail etc...

I have always been one to argue that Google is a household name. After reading this article I am thinking a little different. Google may be synonymous with "Internet search" right now but then again the term "Xerox" used to be synonymous with making copies. How many people have Xerox brand machines in their offices anymore?

It's going to be interesting to see how Microsoft and Yahoo counter Google, and with what. Google is also rumored to be sued by SCO (insert laughter) very soon to make an example of a big company using Linux.

I like Google a lot but hell, outside of searching they ain't do nothing for me. I use their toolbar in IE to block pop-ups, but as soon as XP SP2 comes out with built-in IE pop-up blocking it's gone.

I "Xerox" stuff on a canon machine. Does that mean I'll "Google" stuff on SearchEngine.com?

Probably within the next few years Microsoft will have a search engine built into the OS and swear up and down that it is the only safe way to surf the net.

Name any internet property outside of Google and Ebay that have marketed themselves so successfully as to become a verb in Worldwide nomenclature.

Now tell me which of those became that successful without a dime of marketing expense.

Google is powerful indeed.

Google is the most innovative company out there right now, no one can even match the success of the AdWords and AdSense programs goolge has started.

Looks like they won't hire you unless you went to an Ivy. That's a pretty dumn policy if you ask me. Book smart != overall smart 90% of the time.

Ever hear of Overture? They control more ppc $$ than google.

As for competitors, yahoo uses google results right now, but they will be switching to their own results this coming year (yahoo now owns altavista, alltheweb, inktomi, overture, lycos, and more). Microsoft is developing its own search engine right now, but in the mean time(january-february) MSN will drop its looksmart listings(ppc ads that dominate the first page) and show 'pure' inktomi listings right below the sponsored ads which are actually controlled by overture.

I dont think its a bad policy. The chances of finding a top notch person is probably higher from an Ivy than from other schools in general.

I see I'm not the only one to notice the decline of google searches.
