Maybe it's something closer to your location? I just tested and got 9/12/11/12.

Guys, bear in mind I only saw this problem for a guaranteed time of about half an hour, and other sites were perfectly responsive.

In the far far beyond, outside your window, something probably happened to the physical bits of the internet. Like a router your traffic goes through went down, or something.
