What's the point of making these "Is <.....> down?" threads?

If it's not, your side still is and you can't do anything.

If it is down for everyone...guess what, you STILL can't do anything.

I think the idea is to catch <.....> down and go wow, it really is down and notice that a billion other people are having trouble.

Sometimes I ask if AIM is down and when I get back on like 80% of my buddylist is still off, and then you see people sign on 1 by 1...

Yeah, my university's internet half-died one night and I was freaking out. I was going around to people asking if websites were working and stuff (Google worked, Wikipedia didn't, Slickdeals worked, Yahoo didn't, GMail worked, AIM didn't, etc etc). It was really weird.
