its normal, I used to watch movies all the time with a buddy of mine. Most of the time it was because no one else wanted to watch all the crappy looking movies like we did. Good times. Anyone who sits with an empty seat in between or something is friggin gay. Get over it, its okay to have a friend who is male.

When I see a movie with a friend we usually sit next to each other. We aren't insecure. But if I go with a group, I put up the arm rest and put my arm around this one guy who we make fun of for being insecure. You should see how he reacts.
