I play real guitar AND love the game. It is possible to love both and do well in both. The game is completely different from the real thing so I don't see why there's all sorts of hating going on. The real deal is much more frustrating starting out and takes infinitely more time to get any good. Not everybody can do it... that's why there's the game.
I'm a better real guitar player than a Guitar Hero player. (
Check out my band here.) I don't use my little finger for real leads, so it's a stretch (no pun intended) for me to hit the blue button and the orange may as well be next door. Also, my tendency to strum as I would play the real songs and push and pull on the beat's groove doesn't mesh well with the mechanics of the game. I still enjoy the game, but am more frustrated that I'm going to be hard pressed to handle Hard, much less Expert, difficulty.
Of course, when I see someone ace Dragonforce or "Psychobilly Freakout", I just want to hand them a six-string and ask them to play a basic I-IV-V progression. Heh.
