Is George Lucas crazy, stupid, or what?

There's a big deal going on right now, Lucas has said he won't put the "original" Star Wars movies on DVD, just the extended versions.

Obviously there's a big hubbub since tapes don't last as long as DVDs, I know my tapes of the original versions are getting a little screwy.

But here's the dumb aspect - most everyone I know who's a big Star Wars fan owns the original trilogy as well as the special editions. I'm pretty sure the same thing would hold true if they released both versions to DVD.

So obviously it's not a money thing, because he'd make two sh*tloads of money by releasing both versions, rather than just a sh*tload with the special editions.

Thoughts?

Oh hell, he is just waiting until he can bundle all 6 movies for about $500.

And people will be tripping over themselves to get to the store to buy it. Wanna bet the 6 movie bundle will show up in time for Christmas some year?

Probably. Although if he releases both trilogies and then releases that people would still buy it.

Sounds crazy, stupid, and what if you ask me.

He already has a bajillion sh|tloads of money, so he doesn't care if you'd buy the special edition dvd's or if you want the original movies on dvd. Your paltry few dollars will not affect him one way or the other.

Basically, it's his property and he can do with it as he sees fit. Just because a few million geeks live the whole Star Wars thing like a religion, doesn't mean he has to do anything to please them.

he's going to release the first 3 individually on dvd then make a box set for the first 3. after people stop buying that he'll release the last 3 individually then make a box set for the last 3 and finally make a box set for all 6. knowing some of these die hard star wars fans they'll buy em all.

Lucas doesn't want to acknowledge that the original versions even exist. GREEDO DID NOT SHOOT FIRST!! I was kinda irritated when I saw that, both for the change and the fact that it was done so poorly.

Yup....he is greedy.

I don't understand that comment.

I don't think he's greedy at all, if he were, he'd be tripping over himself to release both versions to DVD rather than just the special editions.

he's rich enough that he doesn't care what you think.

which isnt' always good since it seems like he's surrounding himself with sycophants.

you know, the sad part is I'll still probably go out and get the box set, then the next box set, and the next box set.

What he should do is just have one OT set with the option to view it with/without the added scenes/effects.

That would mean he would have to revamp the originals all over again -- without the special edition stuff. That isn't cost effective.

There have already been laser disk transfers, it wouldn't be as big a deal as you say. And he'd more than make any outlay back plus some, that's pretty much assured.

I'm not so sure he kept digitally remastered version that are "pre-special-edition" edited. In fact, I highly doubt it.

Hey, wait a tic . . . check out the ads on the left . . .

Are these imports or something???

WTF!!!! :Q :Q :Q

Now this is an interesting thing . . . according to Amazon there is no DVD available for Star Wars. So these obviously have to be pirated copies of some sort. Not really appropriate for AT to be advertising, don't you think?

Come to think of it, George Lucas hasn't released any officially. Those have GOT to be some sort of copy-to-DVD version that does not have Lucas Film's approval. Somebody write to Lucas and tell on them! :p
