Is GEFORCE 2 GTS better in 2D (windows) than Voodoo 5?

Please only people who have seen both (and hopefully on the same monitor).

I have a Dell Trinitron 21", at 1024 or 1280 resolution (100 HZ) on my voodoo 5, the text is readable and colours are "average" to me...can never seem to get monitor to look "right" (brightness/contrast, etc). Dad ordered a Dell computer and it came wiht a 19" Dell Trinitron and a geforce 2. At 1024 Resolutoin/100hz, his monitor looks outstanding. I can get close or far and it still looks like an LCD practically. Mine, if I stand close or far, it looks pixelated...blurryish..voodoo 5's fault or..Dell shipped me a bad 21" monitor? I'd be pissed if they did because I didn't order mine with a PC, maybe they "make sure" the monitor works great if you get it with a PC (sounds funny but go to dell's site, you know they are wacked up - their site was made by newbie web programmers =/). I wouldn't be able to tell that my 21" looks a little blurry or should look sharper, if I didn't see how damn good my dad's 19" dell looks in comparison.

I think the dot pitch on both monitors is the same also.. (.24 or .23 I forget). It looks like dell shipped me a dell trinitron 21" with .25mm pitch. It just doesn't have such a high quality that my dad's smaller trinitron has (both new).

I'm hoping dell didn't give me an older revision of their dell trinitrons (even though this is a new monitor just like my dad's, striaght off their website). I have seen them give out different revisions of their keyboards, and while both look identical and say quietkey, one is very obviously not - and looking on the back it reveals one says "REV A" the other says "REV B".

If I turn the contrast to 100, and brightness to 0 the text is very sharp but your eyes get tired because white is too bright. Are there any good colour matching programs for monitors out there? Getting tired of this....my 17" trinitron was better to look at than this 21".

It's usually quite the opposite actually. NVidia based cards are reknowned for their poor 2D quality, whereas 3dfx cards are usually extremely nice in that regard. Second only to Matrox in my experience.
It's possible that he may have gotten one of the few GF2's with half decent visual quality but in any case I'm inclined to say it's more likely to be the monitor then the video card as the 2D on the V5 is top notch.

Yeah.

Voodoo's are generally #2 or #3 in 2D quality, depending on who you talk to.

1) Matrox
2) ATI
3) Voodoo
4) Nvidia

No one has mentioned the great 2d fix for the Geforce 2 line of video cards. For anyone upset with the 2d performance of Geforce 2's I got the guide & thread
I had a great improvement.

Thansk for the info.
His picture is actually amazing.
If I run my 21" at 1024 it's too pixelated, if I run it at 1280 sometimes it feels like it's losing focus (or maybe it's my eyes?). But 1024 on his looks like it's an LCD. I'm temptd to trade my mointor for his and take $250-300 from him like he said he would...but I don't feel like giving this monitor to my dad because it doesn't rule as much as his...I think I am going to try hooking his monitor up to mine and see if it looks as sharp as it did on his PC. To boot, i have the P1110 monitor, recently Dell put up a Dell P1130 monitor (21" Trinitron) for the same price. Looks like it must be something fixed, but they don't say anything different in the specifications, and I wonder why they are the same price..I emailed Dell about it but they won't respond I'm sure - I will call them soon...
