Is GD-ROM readable by a PC CD-ROM?

Only a portion of the GDs are readable by standard CD-Rom drives. This is smaller intro data on the cd, which most of the time contain the entire game as some developers do not use all the space available. While the second portion of the disc is unreadable, the written in a compressed manner (closer clusters of info) which CD-Roms cannot understand or interpret. That basically sums it up.

What if the game only used less than 700MB of the GD? Will it still be understood by the PC CD-ROM? How is emulator possible if the CD-ROM cannot fully understnad the GD-ROM?

nope...sorry. Can't be done. From what I have read there is only about 50 meg that is readable by cdrom. I have seen tons of attempts to get around it but none have done it.

what makes you think you can emulate the Dreamcast on the PC?

Also, don't assume the release groups use a pc cdrom drive......if that were indeed the case, people would have figured it out by now.

My guess is that those |337 hax0rs figured out how to make a serial connection from the DC to the PC.

I saw a link somewhere saying they (Sega) were thinking of making a PCI emulator for the comp... if the current CD-ROM drives can't read GD-Roms they'd have to re-release all their games on CD or DVD?

What Im interested is not whether they're copyable, Im just wondering how those emulators work if the CD-ROM can't even fully read the GDs.

The groups that can rip DC games, use a developer's system to do it. I don't know any more details than that, but I do know a development system is necessary.

I have no idea how Sega is going to get games to work on a PC CD-ROM. Maybe include a GD-ROM in the package?

I think people are puting far too much faith in the Dreamcast PCI card. I give it 1:50 chance of it ever happening....

...but then again, I don't work for Sega =)
