Is Gatorade bad for you?

I drink a lot of Gatorade. I go to the store and buy it in the gallon. I usually go through a gallon every 3 days or so. My thinking is that it's better for you than pop. I don't drink any pop at all, but I drink more Gatorade than water. My GF says that gatorade is almost as bad as pop, because of the sugar in it. I want to know what you guys think.

Cliffs:
1. I don't drink pop
2. I drink more gatorade than water
3. GF says gatorade is almost as bad because of sugar

Heard that too much of it could give you kidney stones or something similar due to something in it...

I'm 24 and I've never had kidney stones. I have a friend who is 24 as well, and he has had kidney stones. He used to drink a gallon of milk every 2 or 3 days. The doctor said it's because of that so he cut down.

Yes, I drink water. I drink more Gatorade than water though.

It's got about half the calories(AKA sugar) in it that your typical soft drink does. It's also carbonation free (good), and doesn't have the acidity that most colas do (good).

Certainly an empty source of calories if you aren't in need of them, but not as bad as it could be.

Gatorade has about half the sugar as most sodas do, and the phosphates in soda are a significant reason why they are to bad for your teeth. It's really not any worse than anything you put in your mouth except for water. If you really care though swish a mouthful of water around once your done drinking it.

an apple has a crapload more sugar in it than a 12oz gatorade, in otherwords the amount is really insignificant. A gallon every three days it fine in all aspects.

I also drink orange juice, apple juice, and milk. The main reason I drink Gatorade so much is that I kind of get tired of just plain water. I also think it's just as bad or better than lemonade, kool-aid, etc. Do all you guys just drink a ton of water?

2g is hardly a "crapload". An apple has around 16g of sugars, 8oz of gatorade is around 14g. And at least with an apple your are getting 4-5 grams of fiber along with it.

the fruit punch flavor Gatorade has red40 in it and red40 can cause cancer although you have to drink alotttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttt of it

A lot of sugar and a lot of artificial color. What do you think? It isn't as bad as pop ( 😉 You're from the East coast right?), but it is still not good for you in large amounts.

Who cares though, you are young, and it won't kill you. But yes, the healthiest thing is to drink mostly water and non-artificial things and to drink and eat variety.

Not according to Wiki:

Allura Red AC has few health risks associated with it in comparison to other azo dyes. Upon its introduction onto the market, there were fears that Allura Red AC was carcinogenic; however, studies have since shown that this is not the case. The initial reports of its consumption causing tumors have since been shown to have been caused by the presence of para-cresidine.

It's koolaid with some salt and potassium. Gatorade's only justifiable use is to rehydrate, such as athletes, people who are sick with fever, vomiting, and/or diarrhea, people staying in very hot environments for extended periods, and people with hangovers. Other than that, it's just fueling your sweet tooth, prodding your pancreas into producing insulin that it didn't need to, and adding calories in a form that isn't helpful.

If you want an alternative that is similar but with fewer negative effects, try the various flavors of Crystal Light. Dump two units of it in a gallon jug of water, Hey Presto, you're finished.

It's designed to be consumed while working out. Consuming it sitting down while not working out is unhealthy because it's designed to spike insulin and flood your body with glycogen. When not working out, these effects build up insulin resistance and create body fat.

I buy a bottle of lemon juice and put about a tablespoon in every 24 ounces of water I drink. I drink way more water that way I've found.

Also, you should buy it in the powdered form. It's WAY cheaper. ~$4 for enough powder to make 2.5 gallons. You don't have as wide of selection of flavors with the powder, but other than that there's no reason to buy it premade.

I believe the number is 13g for a 125g apple. If you haven't noticed, you can't find an apple that only weighs a 125 grams unless it's non genetically modified and from some local farmers market.
