Well not so complicated: FX4000 (4 cores),FX6000(6 cores) and FX8000(8 cores). Clock speed is a bit harder to figure out from model numbers but the basic rule of thumb is: moar =bettar :p.

APUs have 5 as starting model number now(for Trinity),so 5x00 is the numbering scheme(these are 4 cores max. and GPU on die).

Gosh this is what always makes things confusing and prices high.

There is literally like 30 processor names and processors for AMD. Im not a AMD person, last I know is Athlon X4 and Phenom X4 I understand. but now they have 40 names and soo man choices. Why not make computing a simple thing.

:whiste:

FX 81Y0 = 8 core Bulldozer/Zambezi
FX 61Y0 = 6 core Bulldozer/Zambezi
FX 41Y0 = 4 core Bulldozer/Zambezi

FX 83Y0 = 8 core Vishera
FX 63Y0 = 6 core Vishera
FX 43Y0 = 4 core Vishera

The higher number the 'Y', the higher the clock speed relative to other models with the same cores. Not sure if too difficult to understand?

i do agree that intel is the way but he also said he's on a budget two and intel won't fit. and i really don't like to recommend i3s anymore only a i5 or i7

i3-3220 $130 + H77 $70 = $200

FX 4100 $109 + AMD 970 $75 = $184

$16 is a small price to pay for a better system. If you don't like recomending i3's, you certainly shouldn't be recomending a 4100 based on it's price/perforamnce compared to an i3. Even in those cherry picked benchmarks, the i3 is ahead by a bit.

I blame Intel. AMD are depressingly just copying Intel's naming style, again. Intel go Pentium, AMD go Athlon. Intel go i3, i5, i7, AMD go A4, A6, A8. Sigh. I miss the informative x2, x4, x6 naming.

They can do the same as old ones, just up to 15% faster :). No need to wait for reviews :p. Also they may OC slightly better so profit there also. Price is what is most interesting thing right now: around 200$ for 8350( or 190e). FX8320 which is 3.5/4Ghz part should be around 180$,a bit cheaper than 8150 is now.

Well, if you don't mind, I will wait for the reviews. Lets see if the "up to" 15% amd fans are hoping for actually pans out over a wide variety of applications. Actually I suppose it will, since "up to" really means nothing. 0, 5, 10, are all "up to" 15.

Hiiii
I am thinking about going for the amd fx 4100 cpu...currently i have a and athlonx2 5200+ and a gtx 550 ti,amd i am unable to get the performance from my rig(i think due to bottlenecking)...

I am kind'o short on budget,so couldnt afford an sb/ib intel cpu...and i think fx 4100 is a better bang for buck keeping in mind i hav less to spend....plz help

If you need a new MB then the FX 4100 is definitely not a great buy. Get the cheapest 2500/2600/3570k you can with a cheap MB.

okay frnds...thanks for replies...the only thing dat worried me was games recommending quad core cpu's...i3 aint quad core amd fx 4100 is.... i thought it just might be better than i3... and i know for sure amd physics calculation aint standing a chance infront of intel's.... all i thought was more core would be better..i would love to own an i5 cpu(i7...mmmm outta my reach until i start earning) but short on cash... even with gtx 550ti installed i cant play games properly, leave alone well...dats y i am in a hurry to buy a new cpu...

but i think i may have to wait for it...and go for an i5!!!

They have jobs. And save money

I'm a high school student using a Pentium D dell from 5 years ago with a few upgrades.

You should check out to see if your motherboard would support one of the new AMD chips, like a Phenom II X4 or an Athlon II X4. Some of the old X2s were in socket AM2, so you might be able to drop a fairly modern, cheap quad core into it. Get you a few more years' use out of it. (The machine in my sig is using an AM2 motherboard. :) )

Well, for myself I can say that I drop 2-4000 Danish Krone (~$350-$650) into my main system every year. The thing is that most of us here already have a case, PSU, monitor etc. already. So its not really going out and buying a new system every 6 months, but upgrading what we already have. And I consider it a hobby, and as hobbies are concerned that's not expensive at all...^_^

Consider that to get a decent laptop here in Denmark I would have to pony up 6-8000 Krone ($1000-$1350). And my main rig will blow any laptop out of the water...

I hope that explain some things...:D

Yeah, a new mobo and CPU would be best if you can afford it (and can be bothered rebuilding your PC), but a quick CPU upgrade is a nice shortcut to make it useful for a few more years.

Well, it's not a full quad core, for each two intiger cores there's a single FPU that's shared. The i3 is better... At everything. That includes games that require quad cores.

hmmmm....thanx mate...dat sorts my confusion quite well...i am slowly swinging the intel way..not dat i don like it....intel is the best....but the thing is being a bit pricey as compared o amd cpu's....and to those with close to no technical indepth knowledge about architecture n all, amd's sound a better option....well anyway thanx buddy...

Yeah, AMD is cheaper.... By $16. I'm not sure what technical knowledge has to do with anything, either for or against AMD or Intel.
