Does the future of AMD influence your GPU purchases?

  • Yes

  • No

  • It does, but I think the division will be bought out and development will continue.

Do the financial troubles of AMD influence your GPU selection?
Are you concerned that financial collapse of the company will end driver updates and product releases, or are you confident that if AMD does collapse the graphics division will be sold off and Radeon will live on?

For the record, I'm a grower at a garden center, I have no connection whatsoever to AMD or Nvidia. I personally think that the financial future of AMD is something to consider before purchasing their gpus.

I honestly don't think AMD is going to go away. They are far to big of a player in the consumer market.

-never owned a ati card , But I drive by them every day , so what your polling is about the name change from ati to amd .

-what !!!!!!! the ati cards in your system will go pooff if amd go's to chapter 11? give me a fing break MIGHT LOOSE $10.00 when you upgrade in 2015, there,s been 200% bashing of amd cards on this forum and you post this poll .lol [[because they have a good product after a shift in goals and consumer focus]] pisa ofa

amd just got chosen as the company that makes the gpu and the cpu for ps4, and they also designed the ps4 from what I've heard (they also engaged in a partnership with ARM to create one of PS4's cpus), seems to me that they're pretty far from dying.

also, this gen's amd gpus rock, most of their gpus overclock at 50% and own the competition while being much cheaper. Isn't the 7970 almost 2x cheaper than a 680? it's faster than it when OC'd. Even my 7850 which is a mid range, can OC to 1200mhz and get to 7950 performance (high end). If I push it a little more I can get to 1350-1375mhz, that's more than 50% OC on stock coolers, and I've seen people on the internet who got comparable or better OC results than mine, and I'm not being a fanboy now, I've owned lots of nvidias in the past, and my previous card was a gts450 that OC'd rather well, from 800 to 1ghz core.

This is not to take sides, but it seems like Sony isn't all that concerned considering they gave AMD the PS4 contract, even more so considering it's a combined CPU/GPU.

You do realize AMD is a greedy, mismanaged company, right? They're cheap because they need to gain market share after a few years of relatively poor results.

Personally, I'm not worried because I haven't bought an "AMD" product. Even if AMD goes out of business, I never actually dealt with AMD proper. I bought my 7950 from Gigabyte, and my 7970 from Visiontek, not AMD, so it's those companies that I'm worried about, not AMD.

While AMD GPUs should be in existence for a while, I actually think AMD proper might go down in the near future. A break-up like THQ's where the IPs are sold to other companies isn't out of the question. If AMD GPUs get sold to a better managed company, I'd be happy.

If AMD's IP gets sold to other companies they won't get to do much with it because of agreements AMD has with Intel.

If AMD folds and they break up the IP, I could see Intel buying it, now then NV would have a worry or two!

The FTC might not take too kindly to that. Intel could quite easily get themselves into a position where the government would break them up.

No. I buy the best value for my dollar. I don't care who it is or what shape any company is.

Since when has a company of this caliper completely folded in recent history. Our governments don't let these types of companies fail. Besides they will be bought up on pennies on the dollar and restructured like any other recent company that has went bankrupt in America.

No AMD is going to hang on for a few more years and I will buy the 8970.

I need to buy a few CPUs from them as well starting with a 6300 for my nephew's budget box. I just recently bough an A4-5300 for a budget box and it worked perfectly for the person's needs.

AMD got the PS4 contract from Sony and in the next few months Microsoft will show the 3rd gen Xbox and reveal a similar jaguar APU set up from AMD.

Hmm, no.

If anything, getting an AMD product is an increasingly better decision, not worse. All the next gen consoles have AMD Inside.

AMD A10 is awesome on the desktop, Kaveri will be even better. AMD on mobile is equally great (Trinity turned out really well), because they have good enough CPUs and the best GPUs. Discrete cards are going to go the way of the dodo bird, so get ready to give AMD or Intel some love whether you like it or not.. as this will be just their market alone soon.

I don't see them going away in the near (or medium) future.

I do worry that the more their finances become difficult the fewer resources they might devote to driver support - particularly to supporting older versions of direct x or less popular games.

Against that, however, the logic of competition suggests, surely, that any cutting back by AMD will simply allow nvidia to slack off as well. It would be different if there were more than two main players, but with only the two of them, one getting into trouble surely means the other is going to stop trying so hard as well, so whichevever option you take a failing AMD will likely cost you.

I think Nvidia would shift up prices even more if AMD weren't around. To that extent I think AMD keep Nvidia in check. The 7970 is a great card and good value for money considering how much the Titan costs.
