Is Fubar still the best audio player?

"Best" is a subjective term, but it's my favorite player by a long shot.

I use it occassionally, but my problem is I just do not have the time/patience to get it setup the way I would really want.

My laziness has just left me using WMP11 most of the time.

My main complaint is foobar's (lack of) music library... I use foobar when I'm playing games and want something lightweight with little impact on performance. When just using Windows, I use iTunes because I can navigate my music a whole lot easier.

A lot of people like WMP11, but its iTunes for me.

that's because you haven't customized it to your liking. foobar is better than itunes after a few simple modifications.

search up Columns UI on google download and try the plugin there are other plugins like this but i figured you liked the itunes feel.

Sounds like you haven't even installed the panel that displays the music library. Not foobar's fault... it's yours.

How is it not foobar's fault if it doesn't come with a music libaray panel by default? (Note: I haven't used foobar so maybe I'm missing something.)

Foobar is the Linux of music players. You start with a basic shell, and turn it into anything you want. I actually like the default interface. It suits my needs perfectly. I change the color and fonts, and I'm good to go.

I searched for a long time for customizations for foobar to make it better, and Columns UI was the best I found. I have it installed currently, and honestly, it should come standard. I can't stand foobar without it.

No, I definitely have. You misunderstand -- I didn't mean that foobar doesn't have a music library, its just that compared to Itunes, it sucks royally.

The default music library in Foobar is abysmal, but the Columns UI plug-in makes it a lot better. Itunes is just a lot easier to navigate, you can narrow down the list by Genres, Artists, Albums. The instant search feature is excellent. Overall, it's just a more pleasant experience.

Don't get me wrong, I like foobar and use it. I love the fact that you can setup keyboard shortcuts for almost anything, so its perfect for playing music in the background while gaming. But, it just lacks in some areas...

Foobar:
+ Lightweight, fast
+ Keyboard shortcuts
+ Lots of control, customization

Itunes:
+ Fantastic music library
+ Organizes your music files & directories
+ Instant search feature that updates Genre, Album and Artist list
+ Play counts, ratings, etc. that can be used by Smart Playlists

foobar is meant to be a barebones audio player with ABSOLUTELY no frills attached. You download separately what you want. Less bloat = fantastic

@Trevelyan: It sounded like you meant it had none at all. It's all good

I still like Winamp, though i haven't used the new version for years, since they seem to be more bloated.

5.09 is what i've used since it came out IIRC.

I've been using iTunes7 for a while. No support for flac/ogg really kills it for me. I really like how iTunes automatically renames folders and files. Really cleans up my collection. I like the cover flow view also. If foobar can do that I'll switch. I might go back to winamp.

Here's my foobar: foobar

With just columns UI and the fcs, it'd take anyone about 2 minutes to set it up like that...

You can also use the media library/album list feature to go through as well...looks like this:

Media Library

Once you're familiar with customizing foobar, it's easy...and really not that hard.

Here is mine. I actually use an older version with ColumnsUI when I game to save system resources. I only use this one to show off to people:p
Check out this site for some awesome foobar configurations. Most are pretty straight forward and need little configuration.

iTunes works like a charm and isn't ugly like Foobar. Cover Flow is also a nifty feature to flip through your collection.
