Is FSB overclocking the same as using multipliers?

abit ip35 pro, e8400 CPU. I wasn't sure how to OC the CPU so I increased the FSB to 400 which made the CPU 3.6ghz. But at post it still shows cpu at 3.0ghz and in windows it shows "E8400 @ 3.00GHz 3.60GHz". Is this overclocked and am I doing it the right way?

Is that just for the IP35-Pro, or are you speaking in general? My DS3L shows the actual speed at post, not the default.

Edit: Anyhow, to answer the question more directly, your CPU's clock speed is the frontside bus x multiplier. Raising either one will overclock the chip. (Most chips have locked multipliers though, so that you can't increase them past the default. For this reason, most overclocking is done via manipulating the frontside bus, and chips with high multipliers are more desirable to overclockers.)

However, as the frontside bus increases the memory must be run faster as well. If you plan on pushing the frontside bus too far you need to make sure your memory (and motherboard) can handle it.
