I just look at activity monitor and it seems that flash itself was using over 50% cpu for playing youtube? Is this normal? What gives?

Yes, that's normal. Flash is an absolute pig on anything besides Windows.![]()
So flash isn't so bad for 32 bit windows? Does that mean it will be a cpu hog for win 7 x64 as well? Is this going to change anytime soon?

AFAIK they haven't released a 64-bit plugin for Windows yet, just Linux.

There's a 64-bit version for Linux now? I know there isn't a 64-bit version for Windows or OS X. Safari 64-bit has a work around for it though allowing 32-bit Flash to run on it.

yeah...usually in the 30-40% range for cpu usage for me, and with HD turned on, it shoots up even more. i always try to download/stream everything in quicktime, if possible.

ClickToFlash works really well on Leopard. I am using it on a G4 PowerBook, so Flash is almost completely not a possibility, but the fact that I can have it force h264 playback means I can actually watch stuff from YouTube.
