here's the story.

there's this girl who comes to the store where I work quite often. [no pix, I just met her]... anyway, I had a feeling she liked me so while I was cashier that day, she bought something and went to my cash to pay... long story short, I asked her name/number, I continued working and she left.

called today and she was already had something planned with her friends.
she really wants to do something tomorrow (today) [new years eve]... but I was hesitant to ask her out on new years eve because I barely know her and taking her on a 2hr drive to niagara falls for some fireworks might not be a great idea for a first date with someone I only know the name/number to. and even if she turns out to be great company, I doubt there's any vacancies at the niagara falls hotels ;):):D.

I've always kept my first dates under 5hrs just to be safe, but any new years eve date I could think of would break that rule... you AT folks have any ideas?

Not a great idea, but if she's up for it you might offend her by saying no.

Just remember a kiss at 12 on New years is supposed to mean that is the person you want to spend the next year with.

You are guaranteed a kiss if you're not a fool.. you can't really miss on this one.. also if you don't like eachother other people will be there so...

you know... you guys are probably right...
I don't know why I'm still iffy about this thing.
yes I definately want to do something new years eve, but nothing seems to fit the description of a first date.

I hear what you're saying about it being an awkward situation. Is there any chance you can both go to a house party?

If she seems to like you, and appears to be ok with it, I'd go for it. Just think, if you don't you'll be kicking yourself...

Take some of your buddys along, since her friends will be there also it won't look akward. Also if things don't work out well you'll have your friends with you to take up the slack

just because it doesn't fit the description of a first date who cares
its going to be wayyy better than a first date if all goes well
you will spend a ton of time together learning about each other and bring in the new year in a romantic way

Yeah, go to a party if you can. Cause at least if she is not what you expected, you guys can get drunk and get some. Just think postively and drink up man. You'll be alright.

oh yeah... don't forget to bring you digicam... we need a pic afterwards....

so to answer you question... yes, it is a good idea.... there's no set rule what a 'first date' should be...
so go out and have fun. tell her it is actually the second date, and you'll have to go to a 'first date' later...

heh, I would bring my new digicam... but the shutter button broke off and I can't take pictures anymore :(.

anyway UPDATE:
I hesitated to ask her yesterday and called today... because I didn't ask yesterday, she already said she was going with some friends for a hotel party... but she said she'll see if she could get out of it... calling back tonight to see what's happening.
