Is everyone getting Q6600 GO stepping now from the big etailers?

I was about to place an order with Chiefvalue (Newegg?) for a Q6600 OEM for $260. shipped, but no mention of what the stepping is. If I get a B3 they charge a 15% re-stocking fee to return it. Clubit , who guarantees GO stepping is OOS on OEM. Has anyone who recently purchased a Q6600 from NE or CV received a B3 stepping?

I just purchased mine from Newegg last week and got G0. I'm not making any promises but I think for the most part it has been over a month from newegg since someone reviewed getting a B3.

I purchased mine from Newegg on the 14th; your post makes me very happy. Though NE has multiple warehouses it ships from...I'm hoping I get lucky!

I have PURPOSELY waited this long to buy a Q6600 from a major etailer (i.e.Newegg) knowing they move a lot of product, and hoping that their B3 stock would be exhausted.

I really hope I get a G0! It's not worth the 15% restocking fee+postage/insurance to send it back if I get anything but.

I should have mine in a few days.

I ordered from clubit. Since they take the customer friendly step to guarantee it then they get my money.

Rumor or fact has it that both Newegg and Chiefvalue are owned by ABS Computers. So it might also be safe to assume that CV's Q6600 OEMs are also GO stepping. A big maybe. I'll probably spend an extra $5. and order from the Egg.

You and me both. Newegg won't guarantee stepping, so I don't buy CPU's from them. No skin off my back. Of course, I also ordered other things along with that CPU, and it was easier to just get it all from clubit. BTW, why would anyone buy an OEM CPU? Who doesn't like having a warranty?😕

I've always purchased OEM CPUs to save a few bucks to purchase after market heatsinks. Maybe I'm lucky, but I've never had an OCed CPU fail.

just buy from clubit to guarantee the stepping. why take chances.

on a side note, i bought a retail G0 at fry's B&M a couple weeks ago. i asked the guy at the register to see if the cage person could find the desired stepping. after a little explaining, he left and came back with the G0 i asked for. of course, it was more expensive ($299) but it wasn't for me so i didn't care.

I took a chance and ordered from Chiefvalue. I used coupon code CPNVSTTFJ28 (Exp 11/23) to get another $8. off, $252. shipped. Just delivered by UPS, GO stepping.

Was that for retail or OEM?

Grrr! It didn't come today and there's no mail tomorrow. 🙁 I'd say my odds look pretty good for getting a G0 though. But until I have it, I don't have it.

So, now the inevitable question: How high are you getting? STABLY.

at least 3.5ghz stable on the only two G0's i've played with. mine's stable at 3.6 on a tuniq tower. this one i'm building for a friend is up to 3.51ghz (390x9) and it's rock solid. it's on water, but not a custom setup, just a crappy thermaltake kit.

Mine's air cooled at 3.6GHz. Seems stable (can run seti on all cores), but until I boot up Windows and run OCCT or Orthos, I won't know for sure. Going to push it to 3.7/3.8 and up the vcore a little then check for stability.

Wow...above 3.4GHz, huh? My cooling is nothing special (AC Freezer7 Pro/AS5) but I've got decent airflow in the case. I'm hoping for 3.2GHz...at stock voltage would be just great. 3.6GHz at not much above stock voltage would be ideal, but not realistic, probably.

My RAM is not "overclocker's RAM"; it's just ordinary Corsair PC6400 so it probably won't run much beyond 200MHz (400MHz DDR2) anyway. However, 400x9 sounds really nice. 😀

And now I play the waiting game.

I'm only using the ThermalRight Ultra 120 with a fan, but my temps are between 25-28 presently. I'd say at 3.6GHz with 1.4 vcore, that's pretty acceptable. =] The G0 stepping is said to be able to handle 71*C safely, so I think with the next vcore step and some more FSB, I should be able to hit 3.8. Once I pick up more thermal paste I'll try for 4GHz.

Oh, and I hit 3GHz without any additional voltage, but again I can't say if it was stable (it was stable enough for my uses). 3.2GHz shouldn't be that bad (just remember to use 9 as a multiplier, and not 8 like some people foolishly do).

3.8GHz...had to raise the CPU voltage a bit, as well as the dimm voltage (which was at 1.90, surprisingly). Might explain why it wasn't always stable.

Michael, You can probably get 3.4 with that cooling. My G0 is stable @ 3.51, but I get a few EUE's in F@H. At 3420, it rock stable @ 1.36 vcore, and 55-59 full load all cores.

I don't know why anyone would get one now that the Penryn is out. The Q9450 will replace the Q6600. 12MB L2 cache and higher overclocking...

And an even higher, excessive pricetag. Pass.
