Is either of these desktops a good value?

Was thinking of one of those for a neighbor / acquaintance of mine. Would likely add a 4GB stick of DDR3 (have one), and possibly purchase one of those newer cheap-brand 240GB SSDs for $40 or less to throw in. (Plan on cloning the HDD, or possibly, just installing fresh, if the Win7 Pro key COA is on the case and visible.)

That would give me a system with either a Sandy or Ivy locked quad-core CPU, 8GB of DDR3, and a 240GB SSD, for $200 or less. Does that sound like a deal?

Person that I'm thinking of for this rig, currently has a Sandy Pentium with a 1TB 7200RPM that I installed for them, when their original WD 250GB or 320GB HDD was in the process of failing. (And interestingly enough, Windows 7 put up huge warnings about imminent drive failure, and backup. The HDD had tripped SMART.)

They're currently on Win7 on their existing PC.

Then again, you can get those Acer i3-8100 desktops with 8GB DDR4 and a 1TB HDD for $350 on sale, NEW, and they have an M.2 PCI-E socket on the mobo. (They sell models with Optane Memory cache as well.)

The lenovos don't come with 10, otherwise not bad since you have spare parts.

The HP seems ok, considering it's got 16gb....but still kinda pricey for a 4-gen-old setup.

I got a Dell for $80 similar to your 1st Lenovo listing @ $117 on Ebay months ago. Same 2400 processor. I put in 8GB of hot rod ram an SSD and soon a new power supply. So not a good deal in my opinion.

I see that Newegg has or had some 7th-gen Core i3 desktops, refurb, for under $300, with 8GB of DDR4. Those might be the best deals. (Probably will get mitigation patches for Spectre / Meltdown.)

Ebay office pc+ some upgrades would be a better value. If your patient with auctions you can usually score a SB/IB i7.

Here's a couple more that I've been looking at more recently.

Celeron G3930 (Kaby Lake dual-core), 4GB DDR4, 500GB HDD, $125
https://www.ebay.com/itm/HP-Slim-27...eron-G3930-CPU-4GB-RAM-500GB-HDD/112616597604

Core i3-7100, 8GB DDR4, 1TB HDD, Windows 10, $197, "used"
https://www.ebay.com/itm/HP-270-p04...-7100-8GB-1TB-HD-With-Windows-10/112645180533

Not a bad price on the i3-7100, all things considered, but that same vendor, offers the same thing, only "refurb", rather than "used", and it's like $75 more expensive. Makes me wonder if those "used" units are even tested at all, before shipping them out. Probably NOT.

Oh, and I've ordered a Dell Tower PC, refurb/used from this vendor once before. It was advertised with a i5-2400, it came with an i3-2120. So much for turning that box into a budget gaming rig. :(
