Is Egg Drop soup bad for you?

So I decided to eat Chinese takeout for lunch today, and rather than get the usual Hot & Sour soup with my General Tso lunch special, I decided to try the spicy egg drop soup. Wow. Tastes really good, but I can't help but think I'm eating cholesterol in a bowl. It seems incredibly fattening and cholesterol laden, but I can't seem to will myself not to eat it. Does anyone have any additional information on this takeout delicacy?

Here's a recipe I found for it.

Looks pretty safe, nutrition info is there at the bottom. It's just chicken broth and eggs, that recipe makes 4 servings with 2 eggs, so it'd be the equilvent of eating 1/2 an egg.

Actually, it's just cornstarch, broth, vinegar, and egg when it comes down to it.
The only fat and cholesterol will be from the egg . The eggrolls and kung pao chicken are what you should be afraid of 😉.

Well thanks for the quick info. I think I've found my new favorite soup!!! Hehe, maybe someone can start a thread about 'favorite chinese takeout soup: egg drop, wonton or hot & sour?'

I'd hope not.... Used to get it with my lunch everytime I ate at Hong Kong for $4(they stopped serving soup with the lunch menu 🙁)

I also used to think that Egg Drop soup was INCREDIBLY fattening... I could literally taste the fat and oils on my tongue. Then I was informed that what I thought to be fat was just the consistency of eggs, and therefore very safe for you.

I suppose a lot depends on where the egg got dropped. If it was on the floor and it broke, I'd prefer to pass on the scrape up made into that bowl.
