Is DVI THAT much better than D-Sub?

I'm looking for an LCD for my aunt... about $300 to spend, and I'd like to get her a 17 inch. Not many 17 inch $300 LCD's are DVI though... so... is it really that much better than D-Sub?

Assuming ghosting isn't a concern on a PC used for e-mail and web browsing and digital photography... is the sharpness or clarity of the picture any different?

ive heard its a lot sharper and cleaner, but youre def. not going to do a 17-inch on $300 as far as i know, ive tried looking for the exact same thing...

but if $300 is the budget and shes no stickler for quality, just go with a good-looking D-sub

but if anyone can reccommend a $300 DVi LCD ill love them for it!

I have a Dell 17" LCD without DVI, and a Dell 18" LCD with DVI. Difference between the 2 is relatively minimal as a I have identical Radeon 9100 cards driving each respective system. Ghosting, contrast, etc... differences generally are because of the particular panel and not neccesarily because of a lack of DVI connection. With that said, I generally use the LCDs for productivity (Excel, linux, etc..) and occasional gaming such as WC3, UT2k3 etc... However I would prefer a DVI connection myself since there is no conversion in signal between analog/digital.
