There are some drivers for a modem that say they only are for systems with Pentium class CPU's with MMX. Is a Duron considered a Pentium class CPU with MMX, or is this only for Intel chips?
I have a Jaton WinModem that the drivers uses MMX to control the voice features of the Modem. So yes you can install those drivers on a 486 but the modem will not work correctlly....
And Yes a Duron is a pentium class CPU, even thought it's 2 generation ahead...
A Duron is way beyond Pentium class! When you see Pentium class, what is meant is basically this, not 486 or less and 60-233mhz. MMX is available on all x86 cpu's greater than 233mhz. So yes, Duron meets(exceeds) the minimum requirements.
Not so sure about some of the statements being made here...yes a duron meets and exceeds the requirements of being a 'pentium class cpu' but lets not forget that Pentium CPUs didn't have MMX until the 166 or 200mhz days, so something like a P75 would not work 😉
