I think the reality is that any game that supports both is designed around DX9. DX11 is used only to add some additional effects, basically its just another graphics setting that you can use to improve graphics quality. The games built with DX11 from the outset however look and run better than the DX9 ones did. There is no going back now, its just better and the cards will keep getting faster and more capable.

While there may be some truth to this, you also have to realize that when they offer two pathways, the DX11 pathway is designed around the hardcore who want to see all the new bells and whistles. So they load it up with all the new stuff.

I think the point is DX11 brings so many improvements that performance is an issue for a lot of people. SGSSAA is the last thing you want when there are performance issues. SGSSAA is good for older games which are easily maxed out to at least smooth all the jaggies, but not so good on high IQ games that are demanding.
i forgot that SGSSAA can be forced in DX11 games since it is forceable in the DX11 version of UT99... it's just that there arent many bits for DX1x games.
