I'm not getting it.

Then again, I skipped Yorkfield, Nehalem, Westmere, and Sandy Bridge - and that was just in the desktop quad core space.

So I guess I'll be in the market for whatever comes after Skymont.

I'm currently using the i5-2500K with an overclock to 4.2GHZ so I'll probably wait on upgrading until I start running into performance issues in games. So far, this CPU has done amazing for me.

I'm still satisfied with my i7 920... I'll probably build a new machine when 6 cores come out (skylake?).

I am still on a stock i5-750. I am fighting the upgrade temptation but I have a feeling I'll be running Haswell at some point in the near future. That sort of illustrates the problem though. In all honesty, that 750 is still a pretty fast CPU. I just don't feel the need to upgrade every 18 months anymore.

i7 920 @ 4GHz is still a beast at most tasks, I won't be upgrading until affordable 8 cores are out.

I mean, I went from a single core , to dual, then quad. Going to another quad doesn't make much sense to me.

Is that on air? I've always been too chicken to go past 3.2 on my 920. It has one of those gigantic coolers that can run without a fan, but I keep a low speed one on it. Even at 3.2 it was a monster. Still is. I refuse to play/pay the upgrade game when I have something that works so well.

I do recode video so I know Haswell would be faster and cooler.

The only other thing is that I enjoy building, which I haven't done in quite a while now. This older hardware (2x 5850, 4x 74GB Raptors in RAID0) is keeping up fine. Games are great at 1440. PhotoShop is fast too.

I tend to keep things until they full-on break or are completely incompatible. I drive a 21yo car and still watch TV with a CRT. I'm not the typical 'need to have the latest' guy, and my savings account sure does appreciate it!

Your eyes probably don't appreciate that CRT TV.

Games are great? Crysis 3 and Last Light would melt those 5850's at those res. Not to mention Watch Dogs and probably GTA 5. And at stock, that 920 is increasingly creaky and old compared to modern CPU's.

Don't tell him that, he's happen with his obsolete bliss. (As am I, I'm still on a Q9300 @ 3.0, with an HD4850 512MB card. I do more DC than gaming though.)

I haven't gamed in a while (the price of being in a relationship) . I'm sure Crysis would kill it. It ran that Unengine Heaven thing well.

It took me 6 months to stop using my i7 930 @ 4.2GHz after setting up a 3770k.
Now my 2500k runs on water at 4800GHz and my 3770k at 4500GHz.
No way would I get a Haswell to run at 4300-4400GHz.
If I were coming from a c2d I would go with a Haswell.
With the release of each new cpu the you gain 15% performance over the the last one but your top speed drops by 200-300GHz.

I'm so happy with my 3570k that there's no way I would move to Haswell. Ivy-E is the only upgrade now. Or just wait a year.
