hey all,

I recently upgraded from WUXA (1280x800) to WSXGA+ (1680x1050) on an Inspiron 6000 laptop and have wondered if I should gone all the way to the Truelife screen for another $50 (during my purchase).

I know the truelife offers higher res along with the "glare" which is suppose to be make the white backgrounds brighter.

Also, the possiblity of running your res at 1440x900 which is suppose to increase your icons and text larger w/o messing with the windows' dpi setting. And you know, that can be a nightmare.

I know there are diehard Dell ppl here, can you comment on the different screens?

Is it truly better w/ the truelife especially with the larger icons, text, and the back whites?

Thanks.

I can only speak from the perspective of a new 9300 with the 1920x1200 screen. It is highly reflective, which is troublesome if you are in sunlight or have a bright lightsource behind you. It doesn't seem to bother me as much with just ambient light, it's only a problem if the source is in the reflection (with the exception of sunlight).
That said, the screen is remarkably sharp and, as a graphic designer, the screen real estate is fantastic, equalling my 23" Sony LCD in resolution and sharpness. The color is also remarkably good, although I haven't profiled it yet.

I was VERY hesistant on getting the iXPS2 simply because i thought 1920x1200 would be too small for a 17" screen (i run 1920x1200 on my 24" monitor)... but since having it, it's absolutely perfect. I don't even have to increase the dpi.

Is the truelife one the one that's on the 700m? I've seen my friend's 700m and if it is, that screen is beautiful. I noticed the reflection instantly but forgot about it just as fast as i was looking at the colors and clarity.

The 1280 x 800 is the WXGA screen, might of just been a type-o. From the research i have done before buying my insp 6000 i read that the WUXGA screen with ultra sharp isnt really ideal for a 15.4 inch screen. The 1920 x 1200 resolution of the WUXGA is a bit overboard for a 15.4 inch screen. Most sites recommended the WSXGA+ screen. Also, when you go to dell's customize area for the 6000 i didnt see the True Life WUXGA+, its just listed as WUXGA+ with UltraSharp. The 9300's 17 inch WUXGA is listed as WUXGA+ Ultrasharp with TrueLife? I'm not certain on it but it may only the 17 inch screens that features it.

I have the WUXGA with Truelife and it's amazing. I was running pics on it and some of the higher res ones looked, well, nearly perfect. The glare isn't a big deal, IMO.
