Is Dell shipping XP?

I read on Cnet's news.com that computer vendors are shipping systems with XP installed this week. I ordered a Dell last week, and am hoping mine comes with XP, instead of ME installed and a free upgrade to XP. I called Dell, and the rep informed me that Dell is not shipping XP yet. But several reports on tech news sites say otherwise. I was wondering if anyone had some insider information.

You should be able to get WinXP preinstalled. Why not go to their website and check it out?

I know Compaq and HP are shipping with WinXP already.

Their website mentions nothing about it. The only options they give when ordering is "Windows ME, with a free XP upgrade coupon" or "Windows 2000, with a free XP upgrade coupon." Like I said, I even called, and the rep said they aren't installing XP yet. Just wanted to know if any Dell employees could give confirmation to what I've been reading.

No, XP is not shipping on Dell's PC's yet. Look for it the end of this week or the first of next week.

My understanding is that Microsoft gave the OK for computer manufactuers to ship and sell new computers with Windows XP installed as of today, 24 Sep 01.
