Is DDR Memory Downgradeable?

I have a stick of 512 DDR PC-3200 and I was wondering if it can go in a system that accepts DDR PC-2100? Will it lower it's performance and work or are they totally different pieces of hardware?

Thanks.

Well you need to make sure your motherboard can accept up to DDR400 (PC-3200) ram. If it does, you will still get 2100 performance out of it (I'm pretty sure all ram has to run at the same FSB).
