Is data corruption from placing my laptop on top of the TV possible?

This is probably a stupid question but I'll throw it out here anyway. Will placing my laptop on top/near the TV cause any harm? I am worried that the deguasser (sp?) will corrupt data on my hard drive. Uh, is that just my own folly? Hard drives have always been well shielded right?
