is CPU locked?

i have a 1 gig amd chip and i try to OC it thru the abit soft bios and i reboot but no effects. it comes back to 1000 MHZ. i am thinkin my CPU might be locked or something. i know there is a way to unlock it. does anybody know?

The T-birds at ~1.2GHz and higher were pretty much unlocked. Anything below is a mixed bag. You'd need to check the L1 bridges to see if they're cut (locked) or uncut (unlocked).

[EDIT: I'm assuming you have a T-bird, although you could have a locked Socket A classic]

compared to the new chips....your tbird will be a piece of cake..........one eye shut and drunk ..you can do it!!!!........
