Is cotton supposed to stretch?

My mom sewed me some new sheets, because the ones in the stores are too expensive for my taste. But they are really stretchy. She says it's 100% cotton. Is that normal?

Wow, i give her mad props for sewing sheets.
Did she just put several pieces of cloth and sew em together ?
Or did she sew complete sheets from scratch ?

My cotton sheets are pretty stretchy.

Cloth comes in sheets a yard wide I think. She sewed a couple together. She didn't sew the fitted sheet, just the flat one that goes on top. Looks really good except for the unavoidable seam in the center. I'll take some pics.
