Is console gaming dying?

I kid, I kid. I just thought it would be a funny thread title, given the "PC gaming dying" threads that pop up now and then. 😉

But is it just me or has it been rather quiet around here lately? What is everyone playing these days?

I imagine we're into that time of year when publishers are holding big name releases for the holiday shopping season. What are the upcoming titles that people are waiting for? Anything notable on the horizon? Or is this going to be a motion control Christmas that disappoints most of us?

You're right, it has been quiet and none of the recent releases have interested me in the slightest. For the first time since 2001, I did not even buy Madden.

Right now, I'm mainly just playing NCAA 11 on my 360 but I have some other sports games from previous years (NBA, NHL) that I need to play. On my PS3, I finished all 3 God of War games and just picked up a copy of Uncharted on eBay to play.

It'll pick up in a few months with the release of Fallout: New Vegas, Black Ops, MOH, Fable 3, Assassin's Creed Brotherhood.

Yeah, nothing decent has come out recently - hence a lull in topics.

Just move/kinect BS

Dumac is right. Expect the Move/Kinect blitz to hit full blast this holiday season.

I forgot, I also have MLB 10: The Show to play on my PS3. Otherwise, I refuse to play FPS games on the console and it seems most of the big titles are FPS titles.

It's funny this post is up...I am sure there was a post somewhere where everyone was saying console gaming was killing pc gaming...

Only thing I care about it Dead Rising 2 and NBA 2k11 but I'll wait until DR2 is cheap but NBA 2k games are always day one purchases for me.

I've been playing Demon's Souls lately, had a stack of games I was working through when it came out so it was put aside until I got caught up(knew it would be a time sink). Just getting going on NG+ now, nowhere near as easy as the first play though.

definitely a lull in exciting tittles coming out. I tried to replay a few games sitting on my shelf, but the only thing that held my attention more than 30 minutes was Bigs2.

Fable3 looks promising though...

This always happens before the holidays... no big deal. Halo Reach was/is huge so that's big for many out there. Rock Band 3 is coming soon and that's a big deal to some (like me). Black Ops is also due out soon.

Console gaming has died for me ever since I got eyefinity / surround screens. Something my consoles will never do sadly.

PS has some massive games coming out this month.. Medal of Honour should be a romp, Dead Space 2 will be amazing, COD Black ops will take over months of my life..

Like others have said, we're just in a lull. The games will start pouring in within the next couple of weeks so get your wallets ready.

Honestly, I'm not really excited for much. Fable 3 looks interesting but that's pretty much it for me as far as I can tell.

Halo is the only big title out right now. After halo's last release I think everyone was going to wait until halo died down. 200 million launch day is pretty damn big. I know I would not want to release a game around halo.

I'm in back track mode and just playing XBLA games. Just finished Alan Wake and working on Bioshock 2 on Xbox. Picked up LBP and MGS4, so I've been playing those on the ps3. Still playing SC2 on the pc on the weekends. Wii getting no love, but should be back in business when the new Kirby and DKC are released.

Personally, I've taken the lull in good releases as an opportunity to plow through some games I never finished. Very close to wrapping up Valkyria Chronicles (I think I have about 2 missions left, not including the DLC), which is an excellent game. After that I'll probably take on Demon's Souls and SMG2.

Fallout
Fable
Rock Band
Kirby
Force Unleashed 2 (maybe...)
Black Ops (not my bag, baby)
Assassin's Creed
Donkey Kong

Those are the big releases I see for the rest of this year. Looks good to me.

Just playing some Dead Space, Super Street Fighter for my PS3
Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep for PSP
Kingdom Hearts 358/2 days for my DS

been playing a bit of nhl 11 (ps3) and keeping an eye on my Heroes of Might and Magic: songs of the dryad (browser game).

other than that, watching breaking bad. almost done season 3

Bout to fire up Alan Wake this weekend, finish that one off pretty quick I imagine, then next up will be either Bioshock 2 or GoW 3. I've got a nice backlog of older games I really want to play but you're right, not a lot on the horizon that i'm looking forward to at this point.

Backlog:
Alan Wake
Bioshock 2
God of War 3 (plus collection perhaps)
Fallout
CoD : MW2 (single player)
Dead Space (I need to start over and actually finish this game before the sequel comes out)
Mass Effect 2 (want to play through it again)

Melty, how is NHL11? Haven't purchased an NHL game for this generation of systems and was thinking of picking it up... I'm getting pumped for hockey season, going to pick up my tickets this weekend 😀
