I havent played it in a year, but i went back to it today as ive ordered opposing fronts and my interest in it has been rekindled. Thing is im downloading the 1.8GB patch so i cant play online anytime soon.

Ive been playing the expert AI in 2v2's i can win with the allies most of the time, but i can never win with the axis. The same thing seems to happen each game where the axis pushes hard into allied territory and it looks as if they will win but then the allies (either myself or the computer dosent matter who controls them as the same thing happens) retaliate and fight back, gradually pushing the axis back onto their own side of the map, from there pushing into axis territory and beating them. This always happens! I never win as axis and i never lose against them.

Why does this happen every time? How can i win with the axis? Whats the best counter to those crazy AT guns the AI sometimes masses?

The axis are good, but you have to know how to use them. Stormtroopers are amazing for taking out AT guns - sneak up behind them and throw a bundled grenade. Bunker reinforcement from the Defensive doctrine is an amazing ability as well. I haven't played in awhile either, though.

The beauty of CoH is that its not so much the units, but how they're utilized. CoH has been patched so that the vehicle AI which is what I was having trouble with is far superior than the frustrating MP matches I was playing about a year ago.

Opposing Fronts is a sweet game, will get that ASAP.

Ill give that a bash, i had like no success with the volksgrenedier squads :( They got mangled pretty quickly, snipers died quickly as well and costed a lot.

How did your snipers die quickly?
Did you camouflage them and put them in cover? Or run them out into the open?

I camoflaged them and whenever an AT gun or some guys came about i attacked them. They either die because they got overwhelmed or just bad luck being hit by an AT gun.

Sounds to me like the AI is beating you in the early game either way. But with the allies you get your saving grace in a specific unit and then hold out for the long haul. You need to work on your short game more and then you will probably find the balance in axis and allies.

Hell I hope it's balanced by now as the last 3 or 4 updates have been nothing but nerfs of the Allied forces.

I got stuck on the level where you have to save Dog company then escort the convoy, but up until that, it was a damn fun game.

Supposedly, the Rangers got a huge buff.

Just started playing again myself since I bought Opp Fronts. Which BTW, takes forever to install.

I haven't played online in months so I'm trying to get back into the swing of things. I am very interested to know how the Brits match up against the normal Germans, etc. The new factions are such a departure from the originals, it's really a whole new game.

Of the two, I like the new Germans more. The Brits are pretty much a turtler's dream, you would be amazed how long infantry can survive when in a slit trench, even arty won't easily take them out.

Nice, I'm glad there is a serious incentive to choose the U.S. Inf doctrine.

The Brits to me are the offensive dream. They to me are the equivalent of the Krauts' Blitzkrieg. I love using them with an offensive strat I engineered.

Yeah, ive heard they were the turtlers dream? Didnt seem like that to me yesterday, I would have lost a 2v2 yesterday if one of them didnt get dropped because my allie was borderline useless (expert AI would have helped me out more) and there was artillery raining down on us from christ knows where! It was crazy! Everytime i fired a nebelwerfer a few seconds later artillery would rain down on it. Plus it took me a long time to figure out how to bust those little trench things the brits build, had an elite panzer IV firing at one for ages until i thought of grenades.

I won in the end but it was tough, i had to keep moving my tanks and guys around to avoid artillery. I saw a 25 pound gun when i looked at the map at the end, maybe that was what always killed my nebelwerfers and shot at me.

If by offense you mean turtle creeping then ok. Sure there are multiple ways to play but the advance, lockdown, advance strat sure works well with arty, morters, trenches, vickers emplacements creeping for you.

Probably, they're offensive for me, because in the beginning game, if the Brits get an offensive strat, they will generally win unless the player is playing some 1337 dude, or there is a screw up.
I love the Brits. Alot. And it's because I am able to play with their offense. I'm not talking about arty--thats whoring. I'd call that a little dirty. But yeah, the PE NEED to move with tanks. Trying to do a barrage with nebelwerfers is a total risk.

Big MEH for me. Howitzers were only so good. You'd have to keep up a good stream of fire, and the pop cap, it just...not that good.

If you can get multiple (like 3) howitzers at a high elevation and fire them one after another, the enemy will be soft enough for you to finish them off with a quad, 2 ranger crews, 2 engineer crews (flame) and a Greyhound which should all fall in well below the population cap. Obviously it helps if you have a team mate go armor, but really, it's not called Infantry company for nothing.

Good advice, but still...
Is it worth it to buff the Rangers up with Thompsons?
