Comedy, humor, satire - they are all wonderful.

If it wasn't for these, we would be enraged shitheads. Comedy is relief. And, frankly, quite necessary.

I've heard similar arguments (we'll all be enraged blah blah) when talking about the need for having religion, but it doesn't appear to be solid logically. Maybe for some, I guess.

This almost sounds like the case for having religion, but it doesn't appear to be solid logically.

Religion has never been about release & relief. It is usually about re-affirmation and solidifying who you are and why you do what you do.

Comedy and religion are two totally different things.

I think it makes perfect sense in the case for religion. A huge chunk of society are authoritarians who don't want to think for themselves. Religion is meeting a crucial need.

Judging by the "comedy" I see on TV and the movies in general, it's a lost art form. I can't remember the last time I just laughed out loud at any show or movie I have seen in the last 20 years.

Wasn't the nerdy germans with small dicks post intended to represent him?

But is it really anything extraordinary? for example in this thread I noticed that there are some passive-aggression towards those not funny, such as "nerds", "germans". Does it make me that much more intelligent if I point out that they must be putting others down to compensate for their smaller dick?

/snark off/

If anything comedy is under-rated. Comedians are probably better at keeping people sane than psychologists. Everyone loves a good comedy show, nobody loves Dr. Phil, even though he is a joke.

Ooops, the snark came back on without permission.

I don't understand the assertion that humor is "overvalued". People with a good sense of humor certainly make much better company.

Given a choice between, say the greatest mathematician in the world who is a humorless lump and a guy who drives a trash truck, but is funny, I can tell you without hesitation who I'd much rather go to lunch with.
