I wonder where jospeh will be headding? I heard a rumor that Washington was going to trade for Joseph and then trade ollie to Colorado.
That would kill me because I have Aebischer 🙁

I heard NY Rangers may go after him as well. He still has a problem foot though...
I've heard that rumor too... I think the Wings would have to seriously consider if they want to help out Colorado like that. I think they are more apt to send him elsewhere for less in return. But, it's not like anyone is knocking down the door to get CuJo. He's had ankle surgery, and is expected to recover fully in a short amount of time. He has returned to practice.

But to answer the initial question... Yes, I think Cloutier is good enough. He can get on a hot streak as well as anyone.

In '98 Osgood wasn't all that consistant. He gave up a couple of very long/very soft goals. But the Wings still won the Cup.

Woot.......... Wingnutz.............. Canucks vs Detroit this Thursday 4:30pm PST 🙂 You better tell you supervisor you have a doctors appointment or something 😉 😀

Heh... Wouldn't be the first time that I took time off work to watch a Wings game. But a regular season Canucks game isn't good enough to miss work. 😛

That's what DirecTV, NHL Center Ice, and TiVo is for. 🙂

Hey......... Anytime you can miss work to watch hockey is a good time 😀 😉

I wish the Rangers still had Cloutier. If they did, they'd have a good tandem w/ him and Dunham, just like how the Wild have Fernandez and Rolosson. Dunham's pretty good for the incredible # of shots the rangers defense, if you can call it that, give up. But I do think Cloutier's good enough to win it, and he's only gonna get better.

I wouldn't put Turco up there. Sure he has great numbers, but look who he has in front of him. I could pull off a 1.2 GAA with 10 shots per game against.

Last night he had 15 shots, 4 goals... That's a .733 save ratio.

Every great goalie has a bad night. Remember when Roy let in 7 goals in a game seven against Detroit a couple of years ago?

I still think that Turco has what it takes to be an elite goalie.

Turco has the goods but this season will be the turning point for Turco. Without Hatcher Dallas' defense is a little weak, it'll be a good test to see what he's really made of. Based solely off last season's performance though, he is a stellar goalie.

Blackburn is not bad.......... he just needs more experience.

yeah I like Blackburn, especially how he filled in as the #1 when richter 1st got hurt last yr, and I think he's gonna be good, but I don't think hes got as much potential as Cloutier. (I'll also never forget when Cloutier beat the hell outta Salo when he was still on the Fishsticks, lol.)

You need someone without serious problems in the clutch with the ability to bounce back. All the big winners have that quality. They may have bad days but you'll veryVERY rarely ever see it happen twice.

And once again, Brodeur is UNDERRATED... w00t! Methinks Turco will end up with the same problem. But then all those hockey columnists seem to hate NJ and Brodeur despite is being consistently one of the best goalies every single year! He's helped people win Cups and Gold.

And my response to your question is that I'd rate Cloutier below Lalime and Joseph. Cloutier is solid when he's good, but he'll never go on a roll of stealing games like Lalime and Joseph have in the past.

There's four levels of goalies in the NHL right now:
Top tier has Hasek/Brodeur
Second has Lalime/Giggy/Theodore/etc.
Third has Cloutier/Salo/etc.
Bottom has Potvin/Dunham/etc.

Last November? Player of the month?

My "roll of stealing games" comment? Stealing games means a 1-0 shutout, not having your superpower offense score 5 goals a game and you get credit for the win with a 3 GAA performance. 🙂 He only had one shutout in November(if he even played that game against the Stars), and it looks like their powerplay/penalty kill was the best during the month of November compared to the rest of the year.
Cloutier is not a top tier goalie, or second tier even. He's a young guy who can stand on his head the odd night, but is too inconsistent and has too good of an offense in front of him to be called a consistent playoff-game winning goalie.

Actually, Vancouver LOST 4-0 to Dallas that game... It was their only loss all month.

In 2 games agains the Wild, and one against each of Colorado, Detroit, and St Louis, Cloutier let in a grand total of 9 goals in 5 games. That's a great GAA against some of the league's top teams.

Cloutier has a lot to prove before he can be considered good enough to win the cup.

Remember two years ago when the Canucks had the Wings against the ropes? Down 2-0 in the series, the game was tied 1-1 with less than a minute left in the 2nd period of game three. Cloutier let a SOFT shot by Lidstrom in from the red line. Cloutier never recovered and the Wings went on to win the series (and the Cup, woo!).

He is a good regular season goalie, but he needs to make more of a statement in the playoffs. The Canucks have great forwards and defensemen. Cloutier needs to step it up for them to have a legitimate shot at a run in the playoffs.

That he may be, but it's difficult to say when he only faces 15 shots a night with a great team in front of him.

Turco was the man at UM. He set the mark for career wins by a goalie and won two championships.

That being said, I think he had a good year last year, but was the beneficiary of seeing very few good shots. Hatcher, Zubov, Sydor and the rest of the Stars D were great.

I think he will have a good year this year, but his numbers will not be as good as last year's. I also don't think he is ready to win it all. He needs a couple more years as a starting goalie in the NHL and the Stars as a team need to bond.

I really wish people would stop bringing that up... No one has a story at the beginning of the year, so that gets brought up. When Cloutier lets in a softie, that gets brought up. When the playoffs start, that gets brought up...

Maybe because the Canucks had the Wings by the short hairs and Cloutier was playing very well before it happened. After that goal, Cloutier couldn't stop ANYTHING (10 goals on 33 shots).

He pulled the same thing last year, blowing a 3-1 lead against the Wild and letting in 25% of the shots he saw in the last three games to blow that series too.

Edit: And don't think I am not sympathetic. I am a Wings fan and I had to hear about it regarding Osgood and his affinity for NOT stopping red line shots until he finally won the Cup.

People are always going to mention that......... but to me that is in the past. 😀 He has improved every year so far & one day I hope he proves his detractors wrong & win a cup or two 😀

Every year we seem to have a goalie rise to the top that was previously not thought of much. Last year it was J.S. This year it'll be...

Cechmanek is my prediction. I think he'll flourish now that he's no longer Bobby Clarke's scapegoat.

Cechmanek is a pretty "weird" goalie.................. he's like Hasek but even more unorthodox :Q Did you see him in last years playoffs? All I can say is wow :Q

the funny thing about JS is taht he used to play with one of our goalies in the juniors (Tylor Moss). They shared Goalie MVP one year with quite similar stats. Too bad he will never make it onto the big team.......... Hedberg & Auld are above him on the depth chart. I hope Moss gets traded to a team that can use him.
