If they want in, they will break a window or jimmy a door open. Locking the door is only going to stop a rabid opposum from wandering in.

people go around checking for unlocked doors. I've heard of this being an issue in other apt complex's...

it's a 'rather be safe than sorry' thing... it takes FIVE seconds at most to lock the door.

Seriously, why not ransack your Apt. and tear up his room and throw his crap everywhere nad take whatever Jewelry, Monye, and electorincs he has laying around.

Right before he is about to call the cops explain to him this is gonna happen.

There are self locking doors, not a deadbolt but a key handle one. Only issue is they are more made for Business applications and if your renting, the Apt. aint gonna let you put one on.

im thinking about making a spring loaded bracket... something that fips into the way of the door (right beside the deadbolt) so it can't be shut unless the bracket is pulled back.. away from the deadbolt.. maybe being forced to do that would be a reminder to lock the deadbolt?

Not to mention I don't want some nutjob to just walk right in in the middle of the night and kill me or something
get another friend and take all your stuff somewhere (storage shed perhaps?) and leave it there a week, and really work his f'n nerves. once he finally seems to have learned his lesson, put all your stuff in the garage with a note (in someone else's handwriting) that says pwned by ATOT

I live in a townhouse... so I can't cut apart the door/jam.

what would work perfect is a spring loaded deadbolt.. but i can't one anywhere
