Is caffine bad for you?

I am trying to reduce my caffine intake by quitting drinking coffee while at work. I still drink a big cup of coffee in the morning at my house and drink a cup of decaf at night though.

One thing is that I really like the taste of coffee, and I get bored at work so I will often make a pot in the afternoon. I find that afterwhile I get tired though when I have too much caffine.

Caffeine, I heard in the latest research that was done in Japan, prevents kidney cancer.
Although once you get hooked, your brain will depend on it in order to function properly.

I think coffee is supposed to help fight depression and reduce the risk of suicide, in addition to fighting various types of cancer, Diabetes, Parkinson's, and Alzheimer's.

It causes some extra stress on your heart (irregular beating, etc) and you do build a dependence on it, but unless you're slamming 10 cups of coffee on a daily basis, I wouldn't worry too much. It does have some good effects too.

caffeine has a 9 hour halflife, IIRC.

Everything in moderation.

Including half gallons of 5 o'clock vodka.

Caffeine is good in limited quantities; make sure you don't get addicted to it.
It heals my headaches, refreshes my mind. But too much is always bad.
The worst thing was when I used to have headaches if I don't drink coffee. That is addiction.

I second that.
Always watch your caffeine. And I've heard somewhere that a normal sized coffee cup with half&half cream and adequate amount of sugar contains 400 calories :Q

One of the worst things about caffeine is that it can reduce bone density and increase chances of bone disease. I'm not sure where the cut off from moderation to overconsumption is, or how high the risk is. I just know that it's a possible side effect.

On the upside, coffee drinkers have lower incidences of liver and colon cancer vs. non coffee drinkers.

I keep hearing all these things that differ from each other so much its insane. one day they are saying its good for you, the next they are saying it will kill you.

I say, everything in moderation but enjoy your life!
BUT, caffine headaches = BAD

Getting tired probably has to do with stress and lack of nutrition, and possibly being stuck at a desk all day, not moving much. All other things being equal, coming down off of some coffee should take some time (1-2 hours), and not leave you feeling tired.

Now, if you're drinking more than a pot during a single day by yourself...then yeah, maybe you're taking in a bit much.

the calcium lost from a cup off coffee is equal to a teaspoon of milk. :disgust:
A teaspoon of 99.999% of milk in the U.S. (pasteurized(sp)) gives you practically no calcium.
