Is Black Hawk Down worth seeing?

I'm going to see it this weekend. It got a good rating from MetaCritic.

Supposedly, it's a lot more shocking, brutal, and realistic than a movie like Pearl Harbor with its love interest and all of that.

Yeah I heard the same thing that its supposed to be the most realistic film of war to date.
Cant wait to see this movie, and im sure it will make it on my DVD list.

i'm going to see it tuesday... because i can see it anytime after 12:30... that means nearly empty theatres for me 🙂

I just did a search on WInMX and Blackawk Down is already avaliable to Download!!!
Man If I owned a Theater, eveyones bags and stuff would be checked for digicams. :|
But I guess since I dont, I'll just download it 😉

On Tuesday night, there were like 400 people lining up outside the theatre a block away from work waiting to get a sneak preview.

I just watched it last night.
Totally loved it!!!!
2 hours of intense non-stop action.
Didn't even feel like 2.5 hours had gone by.

wow. i can't really describe it. not too great with reviews 😛
but i know for sure i'm gonna get that dvd and watch it a few more times 🙂

I'll watch it this weekend. Hopefully the theater with stadium seating has it, not the crappy normal one.

Same here. They usually put new movies in the non-stadium seating theater that doesn't take credit cards which is next door to the 2 year old stadium seating theater that does.

I've already seen it -- it's very well done, but it's not necessarily a masterpiece. Imagine the first 20 minutes of SPR but scattered throughout the whole entire movie. It's intense, very realstic, VERY graphic (I had to turn my head a couple of times), but that's just about it. Nothing but lots of shooting and people yelling "F***!! Lookout -- RPG!!!" The performances are fine, the technical aspects are top notch, but I think it's weakest element is the script. It's lacking the human element that I thought made SPR such an outstanding movie. It has too many characters without much depth to keep track of.

Fortunately, though, it's not a "RAH RAH RAH America" Bruckheimer pic. The characters, while somewhat shallow, do some very heroic things, but at least they act with a large degree of realism.

Of course, IMHO. 🙂

Very well made combat film. On par with Sav.Priv.Rn. You tend to get more realistics views of combat when actual combat vets serve as film advisors. Spielberg had vets from DDay help him set up the landscape.
Ridley Scott had vets from this experience, along with US Army combat instructors helping him.
I have read the book twice. This is a rare case where a movie does do justice to the book.

I saw it last night with my 2 little brothers and was pretty satisfied. Then again, there's very few war movies that I'll miss .

Also, I'm sure I'll get the DVD when it comes out.

As mentioned, the script regarding the human element is just not there. You simply don't know who to feel for in this movie because the movie never takes the opportunity to introduce the soldiers; thus they are simply strangers who are facing terrible circumstances. The firefight is amazing however, and I still enjoyed the movie very much despite the poor development of the characters. Also, Michael Durant is too much of an afterthought in this movie compared to the book, in which his character was much more developed.

The script isn't the greatest. The dialogue is cheesy and, like Rudee said, the characters aren't developed enough.

I was able to look past this because if they had, the movie would've been 3+ hours long. The movie is basically structured like this - 30 minutes are the introduction to everyone and the mission and the rest of the movie is a powerful firefight.

In 30 minutes there's no way they would've been able to develop the amount of characters they wanted to and if they had only focused on 2 or 3, the movie would've just been worse.
