don't like rpg elements in my fps games. and the stupid pipe dream puzzles...
I would put it this way: bioshock is an OK shooter with OK RPG elements and a fantastic atmosphere with a paper thin story no matter how you choose to play. Fallout 3 is a sort of OK shooter with great RPG elements, an interesting atmosphere and VERY complex story depending on how you want to play it.

wasnt impressed by the demo, 5 dollars bought me killing floor instead.
no multiplayer, no buy
that's what i go by these days.
i just didn't like bioshock because it tried so hard to not be a shooter, but in the end i just wanted better gameplay. if they'd have ditched the rpg stuff and just nailed the gameplay as a scripted shooter a la half-life or call of duty, i'd have loved it.
fallout 3 was SLIGHTLY disappointing in both the shooter and rpg elements, but they were certainly competent. the story killed it for me, honestly. it was just bleak with a side of bleak.
What a depressing standard. While multiplayer games may be more cost effective, most of the best games are singleplayer.

I agree, and tend to find that online games are losing their fun for me. I've been tending to play more singleplayer games with a good story behind them.
the problem is, most single player games are short and can be beat in just few days. i don't want to buy a game that i won't touch after the first week because i never replay single player games. yes, a lot of great games are just single player but they have zero replay value for me. plus, these days i lack the patience and tolerance to finish single player games. i just feel like i've been there, done that, in different flavors of course. multiplayer offers me a different challenge every time and it's never the same. and i like the competition of playing vs real people vs scripted bots.
That, mostly.
There is also a social factor. I can't play with my friends on a god damn single player game. If you're a fucking loser with no life at all then play all the single player games you want then I guess. I just prefer playing games where I can play with my friends, have lots of replay value(The Sims is a single player game, but holy shit it has thousands of hours of VASTLY DIFFERENT GAME PLAY), and don't suck!
Bioshock is not multiplayer and it has no replay value whatsoever. It's not worth any money to me.
Killing floor isn't worth $5. It is a pretty unpolished and unexciting game.
Bioshock rips off of System Shock 2, but at least it does it with style.
That, mostly.

i have way more fun playing games with friends in vent than single player anyting, so it was a way better deal for me.
That makes sense. Some people don't like singe player experiences, and other don't like multiplayer experiences. Whatever floats your boat <3
But, as a single player experience, Bioshock for $5 is a pretty good value.
So playing games by yourself = loser, but playing games with loser friends = super cool.
Thanks for letting me know.
If I want to hang with my friends, then we got out or play some sports together. Occasionally I play something like CS, Pixeljunk Monsters, or some RTS with friends, but the majority of my video game time is spent alone. I use video games to relax and chill.
But that makes me a fucking loser. Shit, I wish I knew that so I could have gotten some nerdier friends who would give me brojobs as we all played Gears of War together.
