What a moron. You are wishing for the failure of the largest and most prosperous state. The one that funds a lot of the programs that benefit your state.
The state does not equal towns or cities, nor does it control their pay. Did you notice that the Federal govt is basically bankrupt after 8 years of Republican leadership? And your hate for Pelosi? Misplaced, she is not the speaker anymore, just a congressperson representing San Francisco. BBBBBut Pelosi.......

They fund programs that benefit my state? Shit they can't even pay their own bills and are on the brink of financial collapse.

I don't care about Pelosi, Speaker or not. She is a self serving bitch that thinks she is above the people she is supposed to serve. If she was a dog catcher I would still think this.

Your ignorance of the American economy doesn't make you right. Fact is we Californians pay for the rest of your asses. We get less back in Federal Tax dollars than is taken from us. We're the ONLY State that this happens to. What does the Union do for us?

You're right that they're not going to die because they haven't had their gender re-assignment surgery, but they won't be a very happy person and people who aren't happy are less productive to society. I'm not arguing for Berkeley doing this, I'm just blown away by the ignorance of some of you to matters such as transgender. Someone can be born with two hips and two sets of legs, but someone being born with the wrong kind of brain blows your mind? Come on...

California is still the most wasteful state in the nation due to their policies as a whole.

I wouldn't say that someone who feels as though they are a different sex mentally than the one they are physically isn't some kind of "mental problem" their brain works perfectly well, it's just a different sex.

Excuse me, and without any name calling, its just difficult for me to get excited about the policies of the city of Berkley California.

Face the facts. the city of Berkley is largely composed of wealthy Professors and a bunch of liberal liberals liberals.

If the City of Berkley chooses to fund sex change operations for their city employees, why is it not their right as a city? It does not bind the larger State of California, it does not bind any other community or State outside of Berkley, so why do I have any right to comment about Berkley when I don't live there?

Maybe I can understand the angst of a Berkley resident being upset about being in the voting minority, but maybe its time for the rest of us non Berkley residents to STFU because we have no right to comment.

I only comment because its the needed comment to make on this whole sad and sorry thread.

I'm a non-native resident of Berkeley, consider myself mostly liberal, yet more often find myself at odds with local policy, much less local residents.

This is a crazy place. I've started labeling it as, "Berkeley: Because you're just too smug for San Francisco."

Outside of the medical--physical and psychosocial--issues related to gender reassignment, I find this to be a dumbass notion from a very wasteful, very delusional city council.
