It's all about getting to a girl's woo-woo.

The more money and material things we have, the better the chance to get that woo-woo.

Jealousy and covetousness. It's why you want to tax the rich out of existence. You might want to stand down from your high and mightiness and realize that the Left is just as obsessed with the love of money as the Right.

It's part of most humans' essential desire, but not all desires are good for us and we're better fighting many of them. Money falls somewhere in the middle, in terms of fighting the greed being good for a person or not. I do truly pity people who live for money and material posessions. Not only do they have little time to enjoy them, but when you die you can't take any with you, so if you have any spiritual side to you at all you should be able to see the relative lack of worth in chasing down inanimate objects.

It's the collective reasoning of a society, and as more people are added to that society, the general mentality spreads and the newcomers have to assimilate. It also results from the good of a material possiession being advertised, but never the bad. Cars are fast, luxurious, BUT, they pollute, kill(with bad drivers) etc.... we as a society valued the luxury and speed more. So it became good and everyone agrees, so that they dont go against mainstream. Extrapolate that to everyday life, parking spot closer to the store, so we walk less (what about the extra exercise?). I think I might be digressing though.

For example, societies deep in Africa that are away from modern society have different values. What would be interesting is if we went to them and told them..here is a car, it will do x,y,z but it can also kill your people and lifestock through accidents. At THAT instant, what do they choose?

Same goes with posessing other material goods. It's a matter of weighing scales, and by default the scales in our society are heavily slanted. The few who decide to be different stand out and are perceived as being weird.

William Shakespeare, The Tragedy of Julius Caeser, Act 2, Scene 2

"Cowards die many times before their deaths;
The valiant never taste of death but once."

edit: the rest of the passage, spoken by Caeser shortly before he was murdered:

"Of all the wonders that I yet have heard.
It seems to me most strange that men should fear;
Seeing that death, a necessary end,
Will come when it will come."

Yes, I was aware that it was Shakespeare. Thank you for making sure I had that piece of "knowledge".
