I need a preamp and I don't want to go with audigy 2 platinum because ex is easier and has more drivers. But I am confused, I thought the ex wasn't coming out until January? I went to the website and they had the eX on home page for $149.99 (cheaper than the audigy 2 platinum) and were available for shipping. Was I looking at the external version of audigy 1 or audigy 2? LMK, any help would be appreciated..

Also I am looking for a mic to go with my audigy, looking for one with a price range of $100-$150, any suggestions?

The sound blaster audigy 2 comes in two flavors. Platinum and regular. The difference only being that the audigy platinum 2 has an internal front face input area.

There is what is called an audigy extigy. THat is like the audigy 1 but completly external. IN other words the sound card is not in your computer. But rather outside in a nice box.

The audigy 1 came in multiple flavors, but it would seem now adays that it only comes in one or two, the platinum and platinum ex.

The EX of the audigy 1 brought the faceplate style connecting box, out front. in itw own box. It was a good card all around with upfront firewire.

There is no EX out right now for the audigy 2, just the regular platinum. Now as for the older audigy platinum ex 1, yes, you can get these for cheaper. You would be happy with either one.

As for a mic. . . i have a sony something or rather that works really well with my MD. I would recommend any model of sony that falls in your price range.
