Apple just needs to stop annoying everyone with Upgrade now? Just play the darn video apple. I thought apple was supposed to be easier with just recently added 2 button mice. But I guess they are killing everyone with having to answer extra questions instead.

What do you expect for free software. Why not pay for the software to get rid of the nag screen? Imagine that, paying for something that you're using anyway. If it bothers you that much then don't use it, but development of Quicktime is not free.

Yep, HDTV's come with HDMI, HDMI is pretty much DVI with a smaller cable, its about the size of a USB cable.

HDMI can be converted to DVI and DVI can be converted to HDMI via adapter, like VGA>DVI adapters.

Some HDTVs even come with DVI/VGA ports.

I wish more came with VGA ports since that is an agreed upon standard. The DVI is not directly compatible between PC and TV. Im guessing thats why they are moving to the HDMI connectors to avoid that confusion.

I want a faster card that is fully SM3.0 compliant, with nice IQ enhancements like SSAA in the 7800.

H264 is a pretty useless feature for a high end cards because its usually coupled with a High End CPU. Typically if your watching a movie your not doing much else with your PC.

For a low end card is would be great. An onboard chip capable of H264 could cause a few to do that. Instead you will buy a Networked DVD player that can do H264 because that looks better in the living room.

I have the IODATA link player which does HD streams and its networked. I would rather watch HD movies on a 65" HDTV instead of my 21" monitor.

My HD-DVD player cost $250.00 which is much cheaper than I can build a cheap HDTV pc for the living room so that ended my thought of the PC in the living room. Plus the remote and everything else is tuned for the device with no crazy boot times. But I do believe my HD DVD player runs Windows CE.

H264 is a nice feature but not unless the PC connects to an HDTV in my opinion.

VGA is analog. The TV would have to convert the analog singal. DVI is already digital when it leaves the video card.

This is really quite funny. These types of threads always turn into an ATI vs. NVIDIA type deal.

Here's what the thread is about:

It seems like ATI is trying to hype H.264 in the R520 as a major feature. Personally, I couldn't care less if it has H.264 support or not. I want a faster card that is fully SM3.0 compliant, with nice IQ enhancements like SSAA in the 7800.

Is ATI just trying to cover for lack of progress on the fronts that actually matter to gamers? I really hope not.

Which I think is a valid observation.

At Computex ATI had a behind closed doors showing of R520 playing a few selected games from what I understand.

At Computex the only public showing of R520 was its H.264 support. Publically ATI didn't show off anything else about their card. The other thing ATI was pushing hard was their CrossFire technology.

So, is ATI really clutching at straws? We won't know until ATI launches R520 and we see what features R520 has to offer.
