Is Apple Memory Compatible with PC Memory?

I'm thinking of buying a few SODIMMs taken from a PowerBook, but I have a DELL Inspiron. If the specs are similar (number of pins, speed, etc), do you think they're compatible? if so, are you sure, or is it a guess? 🙂
 
I'd also like to know the answer to this. I have a friend of a friend who paid more than the going PC rate for PC100 sdram for their imac, and wondered myself if the two are interchangable.

I did some research on the net and it seems they're compatible...I'd still like to hear some other voices! 🙂
 
Apple's been using standard memory for ages now; they haven't done anything tweeky since before the B&W G3 tower/"Wallstreet" G3 PowerBook.
 
i've stuck lots of crucial sdram into macs, and it's all worked just fine, so i have a hard time imagining that it wouldn't work just fine sticking apple ram into a pc.

so not entirely sure, but around 98% sure it'll work.

i should note that apple isn't three times as expensive, it's closer to two or 2.5 🙂
 
Good quality RAM should go back and forth just fine.

Cheap generic RAM that may work in a PC might not work in a Mac. This is due to SPD not being programmed into the RAM.

Some earlier Apple memory was 5v so if you're messing around with old machines it's something to be aware of.

Yes Apple, like most OEMs, charges more for memory that you pay for it from Crucial or Newegg.
