You can break them of the habit (which is all it is, a speech habit) if it really bothers you. They may not speak to you at all afterwards, but I have seen it work. Every time one of them says ''know what I'm saying" you immediately chime in with "no, I don't know what you're saying." It breaks their flow and doesn't take that long before they stop themselves from saying it.

They don't need to hear it because they like hearing it, they need to hear it because THEY STILL DON'T GET THE FUCKING POINT.
