You could probably setup a Knoppix CD with SOB installed, you wouldn't even have to install it on the HD. :)

Definitely. It's much easier than Windows, since the Linux version doesn't use anything like the Windows registry.

Just start each in a separate directory, and it should be all good. :)

Bazing! I was wondering about that Ken. Deciding what OS to use when/if I build some dedicated crunchers when I get home. Probably Ubuntu.

thanks Ken, if UPS gets here before the weekend I'll give it a try.

also I hope the system is smart enough to start 1 instance on each core.

Are these your two 5200+ systems? Quad cores @ $266 (hopefully) in ~32 days, and the wife already okayed a quad cruncher.

What I'm going to do is setup 3 x 5200+ basic crunchers for the first two weeks of July and get a Quad/P35 as my main System most likely when the price drops. Also my wife's 3.4 P4 laptop is giving me about 3.2 cEMs and that will be it :)

I was doing the math on the Quad for crunching and the price was just going up and up, for example there are no 'decent' Quad mobo's with integrated video so I would have to add a video card, the mobo would be expensive, then I would need a better PSU ect...

I think that if you take into consideration Price/Watt/Output/Efficiency and a system just for crunching the 5200+ 65W version is it. Also my first 5200+ 65W with 1G OCZ Gold, TMG-A3 and Asus M2A-VM just got here today for $359Cdn.

So come August I should have
3 x 5200+
1 x 3.4 P4
1 x Q6600 P35
24/7, I'll be happy with that for now.

Now I have to wait for my cruncher to finish it's test so I can upgrade it :)

Ok after spending my entire weekend on this (plz don't ask) I FINALLY got it going.

I have ubuntu i386 going with a AMD 5200+ but I want to know if this is normal....

I have two unique sob instances going one in directory sb1 and one in sb2 I have the system monitor up and it's showing both cores at 100%

but I don't have the sob graphics window I just have the log files going which is showing me the progress.... is this normal ???

how can I know what the output of that cruncher is ?

no idea about the linux install.. you could keep all of your other crunchers from dumping, run just the new one for a day, and go to the seventeenorbust.com website and look at your average totals

I guess I'm a bit late on this thread. I'm running SoB on Fedora 7 and it seems to be working pretty smoothly.

There is no GUI. Mine runs in a terminal window.
