Is anyone switching from Windows 98 to Windows Me?

I bought and have it on another hard drive but I have not used it because it won't run my Digital 80 sound system.

Nope. Been there, done that, threw away the cd....ok, well maybe i just unistalled it🙂
I know quite a few people with new PC's that came 'blessed' with WinME that are switching to WIN98! IMHO, its a POS - it was good for a few days but then things went to hell 🙂

Now WHISTLER on the other hand - WAY TO GO M$ !!!

Tried it a bit on my dad's machine. Haven't got any problems with it but in the end I still got rid of it, for it's a resource hog ^^

Just the reverse - I "upgraded" a few of my PC's to Me and now I am bringing them back to 98se. Me just feels slower and the number of BSOD shot way up. I would use Windows 2000 on all of them, but I like to play games.

I have used it since about a month before it shipped. Runs great (if you do a full "clean" install) However, you can expect some probs if you "upgrade" it. IMO it runs hella better than my win98 ever did.

When I built my new system 3 weeks ago, I installed Me. I have had no problems (or BSODs). I still run 98SE at the office, and I have to admit it was just as trouble free. FWIW

tried upgrading 2 systems to ME.... one went fine, no problems whatsoever.... when i tried the install on my system, i uninstalled it before the afternoon was out. Seems to be hit or miss whether or not it works out with any given system. If it's free, give it a go, but there's no way i would pay for it if i had 98SE already....

I borrowed a copy of ME from a friend to try this new OS, but less than 8 hours later, I had Win2k installed.
Never before I had experienced such an instable system, and worst of all: as soon as I started a 'big' program/game, ME said that the system was short on memory (this PC had 64 Mb RAM) and it refused to do anything else. Same after I rebooted. I installed it two times: first upgraded from Win98 SE (worthless, a BSOD every 5 mins), then a clean install (still memory problem).

Go Win2k! 🙂

I maintained a lot of computers where I work and our latest batch of computers came with winme because it was the same cost as win98. So what the heck, I ordered the systems with winme. To me, it's mostly cosmetic. I haven't noticed any improvements. I have noticed the lack of some drivers... grrr... what a headache. I'd go with win98 if I had to choose again.

Anyway, i dont see any good reason to switch over unless you just want to try it.

everybody bashes the heck out of Win ME because it's some type of resource hog but i don't think it eats up so much of anything. It's been running smoothly on my machine without any problems at all.

My WinME is so unstable as Win98se was. Win 2K is stable. Maybe now M$ is doing a serious product. But I like to play my flight simulators, so...

Switched from 98 ( with all downloadable updates ) to ME. So far has been fine. Did a fresh install ( from the upgrade CD ). Seems faster but could be because my previous setup was upgraded from 3.1 to 95 to 98.

I was going to try it but since my Win98 OS1 is rock stable & too many people having problems with ME plus driver support is not quite there yet,I`ve changed my mind I will wait & see what happens in a year from now OS wise.

🙂

I have it on one system and it runs ok--haven't had any problems with it....it really isn't significantly better than 98SE in any way that I can determine....and it is a resource hog.....just my .02

I got the upgrade just to see what the fuss was about.

Now I can't give it away.

I think I'm going to put it on a system I build just so i don't have to include any other OS and try and get some money back that way.

I figure it will go on a celeron machine in a star-treck case sold to someone who doesn't know any better.
