Is anyone on any anti-depressants? (Zoloft, Prozac, etc.)

I've been diagnosed to have "anxiety attacks" (constantly worrying), etc. by the doctor I go to (along with friends and family - "it's all in your head").
I've been having more physical ailments and symptoms than anything else, so I don't agree with the diagnosis, but I digress.

So anyway, the doctor gave me a sample of Zoloft and I'm always wary about taking prescription medication, whether anti-depressants or antibiotics... any type at all.
So I'm reading it and it's supposed to help people who are depressed (which I'm not), but she said it's also good for people who are stressed (which I am).

If anyone's taking this stuff, can you comment on it?
i.e. what you're taking it for (depression, OCD, PTSD, stress, etc.), how old you are, whether it's helped or not, and most IMPORTANTLY, any side effects.

TIA 😀

Was on 40mg of Paxil for about five years... then it just didnt work anymore... so they switched me to something else, and I had such a violent reaction, I ended up in the ER with convulsions, nose bleeds and vomitting blood...

I went back on paxil immediately, 20mg.. and over a course of 8 months tapered myself off. I have never felt better. No more groggy feeling, no more lack of concentration, no more mood swings... i still get depressed, but prefer to deal with that, then the crap of being medicated.

🙂

edit: I am 41yrs old.

I can't speak for myself, but a good friend is taking Effexor XR for anxiety and it's helped immensely. She's 24. Zero side effects.

EDIT: I agree with the other fella - good exercise is the best pill in many cases!

I was on Luvox for about a year for OCD. Just stopped taking it. Wasn't helping. Never went back to the doctor. He didn't want to fix the problem, just medicate it.

Zero side effects.

No such thing.
I agree with the exercise/yoga/etc.

Uh - it's very possible to have zero side effects with medication.

For one person, maybe. But a friggin' placebo will have at least one side effect in somebody.

Well that's just the situation. We ARE talking about one person with one medication, which is entirely possible. I never said that everyone would have no side effects - just that my friend does.

Oh, I see, I didn't read your first post. You're right.

Actually, tai chi chuan IS a martial art, it's just presented in a non-violent manner.

You definetly should take up a therapeudic past time. Go try some aikido!

So essentially you were addicted to it?

I take Effexor XR for my anxiety. It helps quite a bit. I notice no difference in myself--no one else does either--except for my lack of worries.

Mind you, I still worry about things you should worry about. There is no emotional constipation that some AD's give. It just stops me from brooding in worry forever.

I'm not taking them for depression. So I can't tell you anything about that aspect. I have noticed only a mood uplift from less worrying, not the AD's! 🙂

Oh, side effects:

Constipation for about a week, then back to normal. Metamucil cleared it up swell
Lack of hunger for 2 weeks. Now its back.

That's all I've encountered.

took celexa for about a week.
no side effects, i just stopped taking it.
I still get depressed, anxious etc on occassion but I just have learned to deal with it.

I took paxil on my doc's recommendation for about 2 months and hated it. It made my situation worse and I felt like a very different person. I am doing much better now by basically just changing my attitude and exercising more often. I think these kind of drugs are way over prescribed since everyone is looking for an easy fix. However they really do help some people so maybe you should try them if nothing else is working.

I'm surprised none of the tokers have jumped on this thread yet 😉.

what bs is this ? If you HAD anxiety/panic attacks you would know it...you say you disagree with the docs diagnosis. You also say you are NOT depressed, only "stressed".

Ehrm...so what is your problem ? and..of course i would NOT take anti-depressants if i feel/KNOW that i am not depressive NOR have any other indication these meds are made for...eg. AAD, sociaol disorder/panic attacks/anxiety etc... if you do NOT have these then why take it ?
